Chapter Thirteen: The Hero Appears Lyrics

The well went dry, the blood thinned out
I scraped through a thousand layers of paint like years
The secret's in, congested grins sigh
I'm trying to find places to breathe now

If this were a book I'd call this song the final chapter
If you read it, you'd be laughing
If it could end right now
The last lines would be...

My body jolted in and out of stolen soundwaves
The world expands or shrinks on any given Monday...
Tuesday evening dyes a room blue
Friday's window has its own view

If this were a book I'd call this song the final chapter
If you read it, you'd be laughing
If it could end right now
The last lines would be...
Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answers in your ear?

Streetlights are streaming by on stiff necks
Connected blurs brand the design of things
Keep on counting then or maybe hold your breath
I'm trying to exhale you softly...
Don't be so vain, I'm not impressed in past tense
I don't do impressions
The blood has dried
Good friend, how loud do...
Now I can wash my hands with tears you cried
You want life to scream her...
If you could frame this feeling
Good friend, how loud do...
At night it would whisper to me:
You want life to shout her...
Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answers in your ear? (x2)

its cool how it says "If this were a book...The last lines would be - Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answers in your ear?" and then at the end of the cd on the disaster march it says that

hehe. I read master and margarita by mikael bulgakov just because of this song. Despite that I still couldn't make sense of it. Or the book for that matter :-(

this song really kills live..thats when it really hit me..this song really has a good uptown/upbeat pace to it..also has one of the most effective lawrence arms lines: "Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answers in your ear?"

I've read M+M, it's an allagorical story for something about Soviet Moscow. But at the end, Friday morning when Margarita wakes it's with Ivan Nikolayevich, th poet from the book (playing harp and lyre in the album sleeve), this is the view from Friday's window I think, after the devil's ball has happened

I was so fuckin' stoked when I came across chapter 13 of Master and Margarita, and it hit me that the Greatest Story and the novel were interconnected.

I'm not sure this songs lyrics are directly related to the novel other than the title. Although the Master and Margarita is referenced in other places on the liner notes of "The Geatest Story Ever Told", such as sharing the same epigraph, and crediting Ivan Nikolayevich as a musician on the record. I think this record and the novel are connected only by the Lawrence Arms giving a clever nod to Bulgakov and their appreciation of his work... and that the album and this song are not necessarily a musical interpretation following the plot of M+M. I can't believe no one has contested the theme is really ALF or Ghostbusters.
