I think this song is about a relationship that he just got out of after she had told him numerous times how much she loved him and told him that they would be together forever. He feels she has no real reason for doing it and is still in love with her.

I love the references to snow and the cold you find in the lyrics of so many great Canadian bands like the Low and Blue Rodeo. This melting snow has left me empty...Why does that hit such a cord? Why does that epitomize the way I feel at the end of every February, early March?
The lyrics "the wind is cold, but the smell of snow warms me today" from Rosy and Grey are another great reference to cold Canadian cliamate.
