I Wasn't Prepared Lyrics

Oh, when the day is blue
I'll sit here wondering about you
Oh, and I'm falling fast
All around your face in strange yellow patterns

But, I wasn't prepared for this, oh...
I wasn't prepared for this, oh...

When the morning came
The bees flew down and wrapped themselves around me
And thats when I spoke the word
To have them trace your face for me in pollen

But, I wasn't prepared for this, oh...
I wasn't prepared for this, oh...

Come, come back to me, my, my darling
Come, come back to me, my, my darling

I wasn't prepared for this, oh...
I wasn't prepared for this, oh...

Oh, when the day is blue
I'll sit here wondering about you

ive always thought of this song as a breakup song of sorts. where one is in love and in pain. and the other is over it all or has passed on.

and as for the bees and pollen, i undersood them as the people who came to your aid when your heart is broken or memories that keep you from completly breaking down.

'When the morning came The bees flew down and wrapped themselves around me (huggs anyone?) And thats when I spoke the word (finally saying what you feel) To have them trace your face for me in pollen' ( you are not over him/her and want/need them back but only pictuers/memories are avalable)

My Interpretation

I always liked to think that this song was about falling in love for the first time. Literally, unexpectedly taking a plunge and tumbling into it. That overwhelming wave of affection you have for another person... well, she wasn't prepared for it. People can fall in love, sure, and then there's that person who just kicks you sideways off of your feet and drags you and loves you and you never, ever forget about him/her because of how strongly you felt for each other.

I can imagine her sitting, thinking, pondering about this boy and realizing the true extent of her feelings for him. That's where the vulnerability and helplessness come from in this song, I think. She just wasn't prepared.

And then I can see her sitting on a different day, remembering this boy and mourning the love that they once had. Everyone has a first love to remember, and hardly anyone actually ends up marrying their first love. I think that's why, in the second verse, she has the bees trace his face for her instead of actually going to be with him. It's in the past. She's reminiscing. I don't think she actually wants to be with him, just that she misses the love that they shared and the times that they were together. That's how I hear it, at least.

Change the lyrics!

"Oh, and I'm falling fast All around your face in strange yellow patterns" <--Oh so wrong! It should be:

"And how the pollen fell All around your face in strange yellow patterns."

Eisley is the greatest. This song makes me sad though.

This reminds me alot of my relationship.....I just want to cry when I hear this, because we've been fighting alot lately. I just want my boyfriend back. "Come, come back to me, my, my darling"

It's obviously about love. My take on it is that she likes someone all of a sudden, so much and she is not prepared for the pain for she has not told him or maybe she has and he rejected her. Her sitting and wondering about him makes me think of the way you feel when you like someone so much so you just sit and think of all these things about them.

I also think the bees might be symbolic, not only representative of where they live, but has something to do with "the birds and the bees"?

Unaffected. That's what comes to mind when I think of Eisley's music, and this song is no exception. The lyrics are a bit ambiguous but, I think it's clear that the song is not just about falling in love but letting yourself fall in love. Definitely worth checking out.

Shouldn't the third line be "and how the pollen fell"

This is my favorite Eisley song. I just love how its sung and the piano is so beautiful.

it's about being in love and having your significant other fall out of love with you and and crush your heart and you not being ready for it, so it's a breakup/i want you back song.
