this song is so beautiful. A lot of people hate the In Reverie album and they say it isn't saves the day and whatnot but..when you think about it, its soo saves the day...the music is still pervaded with awe-inspiring beauty. And chris is so happy right now. shouldn't we be happy for him?

I think this song is about being on tour in an extremely abnormal job, I mean "I'm Never In My Waking Life" simply means that Chris is never in a normal schedule, and everything is all bizarrre.
OMIGOD, you guys, MY ENGLISH TEACHER IS FRIENDS WITH CHRIS!!!!(the lead singer) Anyway, I love this song, and I think that it's about Chris saying that he's never really there. He's always daydreaming about something or other. And I think that he's just talking about how everything is just too much for him (I'm never in my waking life/dreaming is my all the time) and how everything should be sort of softer than it really is (A whisper is my dearest friend...leading me along a lilly laden twisting trail)

This actually reminds me of a film called "Waking Life." A very similar premise. Kind of reminds me of "Fight Club" as well. I think it's funny that Saves the Day's happiest album got the poorest reception, so the new album is very bitter. People sneering at your happiness.
I think it means that he's always daydreaming of someone, or something, at all times - he's never totally there in his REAL, reality-driven life. He's in and out of it.. most of the time in his dream world.
