Lost In A Portrait Lyrics

I analyze everything, I know what you mean
I answer by questioning all that I need
And I want to, to surrender
I want you to see all the sides
All the faces inside of me

I see I’m not perfect, but that’s all I see
Lost in a portrait, in a picture of me
This can’t be everything I see
That my canvas is incomplete
Your color’s everything to me
And my canvas will set me free

My outline is solid and made up of crime
And the things that you say just burn in my eyes
I want to, to surrender
I want you to find some comfort
In the spaces between the lines

I see I’m not perfect, but that’s all I see
Lost in a portrait, in a picture of me
This can’t be everything I see
That my canvas is incomplete
Your color’s everything to me
And my canvas will set me free
This can’t be everything I see
That my canvas is incomplete
Your color’s everything to me

This can’t be everything I see
That my canvas is incomplete
You color’s everything to me
And my canvas will set me free
This can’t be everything I see
That my canvas is incomplete
Your color’s everything to me
You’re everything to me

I think this song is about being in a relationship and being afraid to let the other person in. It's a damn good song, up there with Echo most definetly.

I agree, I think that this person, is incomplete within themselves...maybe past relationships, or maybe this person was a bad guy. "My outline is solid and made up of crime And the things that you say just burn in my eyes"

Great song. It was on the punisher album...

this song is exactly how i feel right now. im going through a heartbreak right now, and the metaphors in this song could be compared to what its like in real life for me.

this song is a coded message all the way. i cracked the code, but i want to see if u can all figure it out.

ok i have to say this is a prayer/conversation with the Lord. just eliminate the lines and u can see some hidden dialogue within the song.

from the first line and the Lord says "i analyze everything. i know what u mean" meaning that the Lord is telling him he always knows his true intentions for everything he does

next line "i answer by questioning" "(your) all that i need" meaning sometimes he questions things church leader, etc tell him, but the Lord is the only thing he needs.

the Lord speaks the next 3 lines and says "surrender, i want you." "i want you to see" "see all the sides, all the faces inside of me"

Writer: "i'm not perfect, but that's all" Lord: "i see your lost" Writer: "this can't be everything" Lord: "I see that" Writer: "my canvas is incomplete, your color's everything to me. And my canvas will set me free"

the next series of lines starts with a confession by the writer and ends with the Lord asking him to surrender and let him into the writers life.

Writer: "my outline is solid, and made up of crime" Lord: "the things that you say just burn in my eyes" Lord: "surrender, i want you. find some comfort in the spaces between the lines"

then for the remaining choruses repeat the sequences above.

and if you're wondering? no i am not some religious lunatic, i just like to do a deep analysis of lyrics.

I think Chris talking about his own insecurities in this song, and about feeling trapped inside and wanting to set himself free.

And just a correction: "My outline is solid and made up of PRIDE." Never trust lyric sites; usually one person posts what they think they hear and everyone else just copy + pastes them.

It's about being in a relationship where you're expected to be this perfect person to satisfy your lover and when they see that you're not perfect, they want to leave you. He's telling her that he's not perfect and that she shouldn't expect him to be that way because she's not perfect either.
