Megalomaniac Lyrics

I hear you on the radio
You permeate my screen
It's unkind but
If I met you in a scissor fight
I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
On principle alone

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no fucking Elvis
Wash your hands clean of yourself baby
Step down
Step down

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent
There was never meant to be only one
To be only one

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no fucking Elvis
Wash your hands clean of yourself baby
Step down
Step down

Yeah
You're no Jesus
You're not Elvis

You're no answer!!

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no fucking Elvis
Wash your hands clean of yourself baby
Step down

could the song possibly be about a megalomaniac?!?! no! o wait yeah it is! freakin a man you don't have to read that much in to this song. it is about all people! everyone is egotistic now and days. just a taste of power and people abuse it. the song is about everyone needing to get off our high horse because were all equal.

I don't think that Boyd makes reference to Elvis and Jesus because they thought they were something they're not, I think it's because the "megalomaniac" being mentioned in the song think's he's a king such as Elvis (King of Rock and Roll) or Jesus (King of Kings). It's kind of like a srcastic question, y'know, like "Oh, you think you're king? What do you think you're Jesus or Elvis or something?" He uses these two figures because they're pretty easy allusions for most people to recognize. Everybody who would hear this song would have heard of Elvis and Jesus.

This song isn't about one given person. It's about humanity in general. We are all greedy control freaks. Look at the lyric "all of us are heavensent and there was never meant to be only one." DUH! right there it gives you the meaning. Stop trying to be the best and so big and perfect. Just be like everyone else and deal with it!

Actualy i read in an interview that the person depicted in the music video is not about W, contrary to popular belief. It's about someone in the personal life of the lead singer of incubus.

On K-rock 92.3 in NY, the DJ said that Incubus said that the song was not about Bush.. but i think they were just saying so because after all this time everyoone's been saying so and maybe they just didn't want people saying Incubus was anti-Bush or something. I still think it's a great song. a little played out. I guess the 'song' isn't about the pres. but maybe the 'video' is. btw. thank god songmeanings is back.
