Shapes Lyrics
rice won't grow at home
and the moon doesn't favor girls
giant fork & spoon
is a sign that the game is on
you know karate now?
from a show?
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
men don't fight with swords
but i would be good
i'd cut you not just with words
cut you not just with words
so you melt chocolate hearts
well, i can forestall the sun
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
angels [russian] where i fear to tread
secrets, secrets
damn your secrets
so you melt chocolate hearts
well, i can forestall the sun
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
just so you know
it's all i'm waiting for
and the moon doesn't favor girls
giant fork & spoon
is a sign that the game is on
from a show?
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
but i would be good
i'd cut you not just with words
cut you not just with words
well, i can forestall the sun
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
secrets, secrets
damn your secrets
so you melt chocolate hearts
well, i can forestall the sun
when two of the raiders come
i'm counting on you to throw more than shapes
it's all i'm waiting for

Well, to start off, it's "Angels rush in where I fear to tread" =P Anyway, this song is really far too catchy. It gets stuck in my head tighter than a peanut buttery piece of bread on the roof of my mouth. I love it.
best misheard lyric ever. awesome.
hearing john roderick trying to explain this song is possibly the funniest thing ever. if you haven't already go to www.kexp.org and listen to some of their old sessions.
basically: say you were carpenter. and you wind up to hit a nail.. you would be throwing a CARPENTERS shape. and they are counting on you.. to do more than that. if you see what i mean. because i dont. great song either way.
Actually it's "angels, russians, where I fear to tread" according to the band's website.
I listened to the interview, and I think he's saying that you need to be more present, you can't just fake it, and throw a shape.
"Throwing shapes" is slang for trying to appear more important than you are or something. Probably my least favourite on the album but still damn catchy and the guitar part is great.
The first video clip here explains that "throwing shapes" is akin to assuming poses, ala rock musicians trying to look cool, but that the song itself was written in relation to being cheated on by a girlfriend.
