Hehe, the sliding bass - I was going to comment about how it damn near makes me wet my pants too! They must have done something subconsciously...
The flanger on the line after that (If only the lights would dim a little) is so pleasing to hear too... one of those that gives you a warm (nice) shiver down your back... so satisfying.
I thought that this was about sex too, to be honest - it only appeared to be confirmed when I read the first line of the last verse. However, I feel as though it doesn't concentrate on the sex... and only uses that to tell part of the whole story... It's not about the actual lovemaking as such. It's about the connection ( non-physical :P ) between 'the girl' and the 'story teller'.
The sex is just a chapter of the book, as it were.
I agree, I feel this song is about sex. However, why does sex have to portrayed as a negative thing. "Love is a verb here in my room" that means he is in the "action" of being in love. When he says "If the world would fall apart In a fiction worthy wind I wouldn't change a thing Now that you're here" What if that means I wouldn't change anything in my life now that you are here. I think this is a beautiful song that is about the intimacy of sex. Not just about the action. I love this song. I will play it at my wedding.
i read ina magazine that it was about him hooking up with someone on tour.. this makes sense with the lines "i came here expecting next to nothing/so thank-you for being that kinda of girl" to me it says i didn't expect to get much action here, but you came along and blew my socks off (pardon the pun).
Now how is talking about sex take away from anything at all?
The story, if followed through literally, is that the narrator has a one-night stand, essentially. Well, maybe not one-night, but we're not going in the future here. The point is that he met this girl for the first tonight and had sex with her because he was bored.
See, people think that it somehow takes away from Incubus's meaning if that's what it is about, but when you think about it, isn't that exactly how Brandon Boyd would approach the subject? He has a negative outlook on the social world, and although love is something he obviously believes it, wouldn't it be along his lines to use beautiful and meaningful language to describe something utterly meaningless?

i've had a lot of talk about the meaning of this song... many say its sex... sex sex sex. i'd be depressed if that's ALL it is. it'sone of the most beautiful songs on earth musically... it's gotta be more!!!! "love is a verb here in my room" verb means action, that's why people think sex, plus "pink tractorbeam into your incision"... but it could also just mean in his room is where he finds his solace with love...
@Jondude11 To be honest, I think the fact that it is one of the most musically pretty songs on the album and on many albums makes it all the more awesome that it is about sex. I look at it like this, one of the reasons I love incubus is because they are so different in many ways, when I first heard this song, I was like WOW this is so beautiful, it makes me melt a bit, and it is such a pretty deceleration of love, but than I paid attention to the lyrics and was like WHOA...

This is totally about a hook up. Now, think about all the ONE NIGHT STAND songs, nothing compares to this, the thing that makes it even more pretty is the fact, that he isn't rubbing it in the face that HEY I GOT LAID, one night hook up yay me notch on the belt, NO he is saying how beautiful it is when the unexpected comes and snatches you off your feet, when you are someplace, so uncomfortable, so out of place, and you connect with someone even for 1 night, how magical it can be. It is to me a song about how amazing the perfect moment can be, and for many, they have had nights where the night just seemed out of place, and the seemingly littlest thing like a one night hook up can make a magical thing out of the mundane.
Taking something that is somewhat considered taboo like a one nighter and making it so pure and beautiful is what makes incubus so amazing.
I have experienced a night where I was just not excited about where I was, and felt lost, confused, upset, and out of left field became entangled in a situation with someone that ended up being exhilarating and magical, it doesn't have to be a hook up, but in this case the simplest nature of the one night stand matches with the beauty of the song.
Think about it... everything is dull, plain, boring... a technicolor explosion of a person enters the room, and you end up together. It doesn't HAVE to be sex, but that is this story, the sex is what puts it over the top, I came here expecting next to nothing, and this girl came in, and lit up his night, sucked him into her, and showed him the world seen from the stars.... If you have ever had a one night stand, a true one night stand, I mean when you leave the state to return home the next day, with never a chance of meeting again you smile a bit, and say. WOW thanks for being that kind of girl, we have fun, enjoyed one another, and never have to do anything else.... It really is a perfect display of the magic of a intimate connection between 2 strangers who are connected and attracted even if it is 1 night
This song is one of the best song on their new album the bass is so moving and i agree with crimsonanclover i wet myself everytime i hear that bass too! also what the song means to me is that there is someone who he favors at a party and he wants them to be in his room to chill hangout or maybe more???? but at the end of the song "thank you for being that kind of girl" says it all you dont have to be a whore to be appriecated by anyone.....

Maybe it's a metaphor for how sex can be a manifestation of love in itself? Lol... I dunno, I read the lyrics and I was like "okay, bud, enough with the porn"... But knowing Boyd he's got something up his sleeve for the song. It's too saucy to just be about sex. Oh well. It's still a hell of a song.
