Don't fret precious I'm heree
Step away from the window
Go back to sleep

Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Pay no mind what other voices say
They don't care about you
Like I do
Like I do
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils
See they don't give a fuck about you
Like I do

Just stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
One and the same I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself

Swaying to the rhythm of the new world order and
Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drum
The boogeymen are coming
The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
Hold you and protect you from the other ones
The evil ones
Don't love you son
Go back to sleep

LOL this just keeps going back and forth and since I still have the freedom to voice my opinion here it is. Even if it does repeat what has been said already. Well we all know that Maynard's song are can be pretty vague and can be interpereted so many different ways... and I don't know what I thought it meant before... but I think it's meaning now... maybe not Maynard's meaning... but.. considering the new album which was all political. I think it is singing about Politics and War and Polititaefj;aksjf;.... ummm Politics people... lol and how they lie to get your trust until they get in power and then they slowly start to change things. The beginning of the song is like them saying before election... You don't need to worry... if I get elected I will take care of all your problems... I won't let things get like our last president... I will be better than the last like they always do. In the first chorus, I think Maynard may be saying this in the background... like maybe in the politician's (?) head he is thinking about what his true intentions are... Just of people I know say they feel that Bush wanted to finish what his dad started from day one... and all he wanted was the oil. Or I also think could Maynard stepping out of the story for a moment... like a nararrator (? GOD I can't spell tonight to save my life) ... he is saying that we the people are ignorant... we aren't paying attention to whats going on under ours noises... even if it is as obvious as really hearing the beat of war drums. In the next part I think he's pretty much saying... don't listen to the rumors you hear... don't listen to someone who might educate you... "They don't care about you Like I do, like I do", now the guy might not be saying this out load but in the lies and speeches he is giving, he is trying to win your confidence. When he says ""Safe from pain and truth and choice, And other poison devils" I think it's basically like Maynard stepping out again and saying that we are blind to what he is really trying to do. Trying to persude the ignorant and keep them from learning the truth... "Just stay with me, Safe and ignorant" And pretty much the same in the "I'll be the one to protect you from A will to survive and a voice of reason..... I must isolate you Isolate and save you from yourself" part, where I feel he's in power and he's starting to show his true color's and motive's but now it's too late and now the person is trying to take away your freedoms... like your voice to speak out for or against something. And in the end of the song is like the future... we are all brainwashed and "Swayin' to the rhythm of a new world order" things are drastically different now and everybody is going along with it... "The boogeymen comin' (x2), Keep your head down, Go to sleep, To the rhythm of the war drums" To me, here he might be saying that again... it's too late now and the worst is yet to come. But that imho is what I heard the last time I heard the song, I mean considering how Maynard has recently been voicing his political stance.
