Do Miss America Lyrics

So, tell me how you feel without your medicine
Hold your head feelin' paranoid
Sweet sixteen for a schizoid

So, tell me how you feel
Now you're the only one
Held your head in the setting sun
Sweet black smoke with the poison

Hey, come everybody do Miss America
Hey, you know when she goes down it's hysterical

So, tell me how you feel without your medicine
Hold you head feeling paranoid
Running down the street from a mergatroid

So, tell me how you feel
Now you're the lonely one
Held your head in the setting sun
Sweet black smoke from a crooked gun

Hey, come everybody do Miss America
Hey, you know when she goes down it's hysterical

I think it's wonderful that Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day contributes on this song. The song doesn't have a punk rock feel, but I can see the lyrics as something Green Day would relate to.

Basically, it's an apathetic look at a beautiful girl because all she cares about is physical beauty. She's not as beautiful when you consider what's underneath the outer shell. I applaud the encouragement to use her and laugh at her: she thinks she's the shit but someday you know she's going down...

Ah ... my music world makes sense...

Well, I'm going to have to take a completely different interpretation of the song.

There is no girl that's being made fun of. The titular "Miss America" is heroin.

"How do you feel without your medicine" - you're off heroin, how's it feeling? "Hold your head feeling paranoid" - having a fit, maybe getting ready to shoot up.

"So tell me how you feelin and the only one That holds your head in the setting sun" Why would they hold their head? To shield their eyes from the blinding light.

When it gets to the refrain, the drug references are even more obvious.

"Hey, come on everybody, do Miss America Hey, you know when she goes down it's hysterical"

Translates as everyone get high. The "going down" aspect is the syringe. When it does go down it puts you in a happy high mood that's just hysterical

The missing line is "Running down the street from a mergatroid" (this word comes from the catchphrase of Hanna-Barbera character Snagglepuss, "Heavens to mergatroid").

Courtney Love recognized this song as being about her.
