I love this song, but I can't help but notice how incredibly similar it is to Prince's Purple Rain. What's going on?

I've actually found a couple of songs by him that I thought were similar to Purple Rain.
hotel chelsea is a place where some famous rock n roll artists used to hang out - leonard cohen, sid vicious, janis joplin... it's a hotel on 23rd street in new york. don't know what girl he's singing about though.
I stayed at the Hotel Chelsea not too long ago ... you can feel the vibe of the hotel echoing in this song. There's actually a line of Christmas lights that stay out on one of the balconies year-round: "Strung out like some Christmas lights, out there in the Chelsea nights."
