Well once I gave a look to you but you never gave it back
So here I stand expressionless but my memories intact
I guess the past is good for a laugh
A comedy so dry and black it makes my stomach hurt so bad

Well two thumbs up we give this one despite its predictable ending
The dialogue seemed rushed and wrong
But the actors did their best
To lay some worth on every word like coffins dropped into the earth
The saddest sound we ever heard
We sang along
We sang it "take this weight away"
We sang it "take this weight away" (we're singin')
We're singin' "take this weight away away away"

I interpreted it as an extended metaphor of a relationship as a movie. The two people involved were the actors trying to save the "black comedy" doing their best to make their words, or script I suppose, sound meaningful. But in the end, it was pointless, the movie was still terrible with its "predictable ending" and there was no way they could salvage the relationship. So now the two have met up again, but he still remembers their miserable former love, and acknowledges sarcastically, "Well I guess the past is good for a laugh" while admitting it hurt him so bad that he cried. I think it's a nice song, and combined with the other Neva Dinova songs on the EP, it's a really good CD.

a wonderful short and simple song written awhile back and performed on a radio show out of Dallas, kdge, on 12/01/02. later a studio verson was released on a split EP, bright eyes/neva dinova 04/10/04. i like the acoustic verson from the radio broadcast a lot more.

I really like this song, I think it's about a friend who killed himself.

Bladmand, that is interesting, I initially assumed it was just another song about unrequited love, but I can see it being about a suicide. The final line of "take this weight away," gets me every time, I wish the ending lasted longer.

This is also one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs. The ending is beautiful.

It's kind of good to find one of his songs not spammed up with MTV fangirls.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
