This song is, I think, about a guy who has to leave his girl for a period of time but he plans to come back. We all know how emotional and insecure girls can get. Basically, he's just reassuring her. The line where he says "If you let me leave, I swear I never will", I think he's saying "just let me go do this thing, don't make a big deal out if it, I will like you more if you just chill and I promise I'll come back"

I guess its easy for me to relate to this song because my fiance and I are about 200 miles apart in our last year of college.

Adorable. John refers to it as his "80s pop song". :) It is very pop-py, but cute nontheless. I love the "feel my chest when I look at you" line. Adorable.

I love this song! This and Split Screen Sadness, and New Deep are the best songs on the LP. Anyway, I think that this song is about trying to convince someone that they are the only one for you. This person has abandonment issues. ("If you let me leave, I swear I never will..)

How come no one's commented on Only Heart? This is one of the best songs on HT! Even with the cutesy lyrics, I love the guitar playing. Very retro like the album sleeve says.

One of my instant favourites, perhaps because of the obvious sweetness ("Feel my chest when I look at you", awwwww!). But beyond it, you find a deeper meaning, like in any John's song, a woman's insecurity and he being totally open about the way he sees her behaviour: "you live like your hand's on the horn, baby" (light criticism). "There's a hole in the cup that should hold my love": in my opinion, a sweet way of saying "don't you see you're losing me that way?" . I wish I had that way of being assertive making my points...

Without being totally related to this one, I enjoy it very much, mainly because of its positivity at the end(unlike most of other's John's ones).
