What in the World Lyrics

You're just a little girl with grey eyes
Never mind, say something
Wait until the crowd cries
Oh, wait until the crowd cries
You're just a little girl with grey eyes

CHORUS
So deep in your room, you never leave your room
Something deep inside of me - yearning deep inside of me
Talking through the gloom
What in the world can you do
What in the world can you do
I'm in the mood for your love
For your love
For your love

Oh

I'm just a little bit afraid of you
Cause love won't make you cry
But, wait until the crowd goes
Oh, wait until the crowd goes
I'm just a little bit afraid of you

CHORUS

Oh, what you gonna say?
Oh, what you gonna do?
Oh, what you gonna be?
To the real me, to the real me
Under the cool, under the cool and under fame
What you gonna say
To the real me, to the real me
Ahhhh, ahhhh, ahhhh, ahhhh

What I love about this song (actually, this whole "berlin trilogy" of albums) is the magic of Bowie combined with some of the best featured artists ever. Not only does this song feature Eno on what is credited as "report arp. rimmer e.m.i" (I have no idea what this means, but the Eno influence is obvious), but my favorite male vocalist of all time, Iggy Pop is featured too.

I adore this song. I became rather fascinated with it for a while. According to Wikipedia, some people think the girl in the song symbolizes Bowie's anima (unconscious inner self described as a female personality). There is another theory that states that she appears in "Life on Mars" and "Wishful Beginnings." I disagree with the "Life on Mars" theory (it could be her, but there isn't much evidence for it), but haven't heard "Wishful Beginnings", so I couldn't say.

Comparing it to his previous album Station to Station definitely could put it into that perspective of representing that aspect of his personality, where as the previous was born from the dark incarnation of Bowie that he was while living addicted on cocaine.
