TVC 15 Lyrics
Up every evening 'bout
Half eight or nine
I give my complete attention
To a very good friend of mine
He's quadraphonic, he's a
He's got more channels
So hologramic, oh my TVC one five
I brought my baby home, she, she sat around forlorn
She saw my TVC one five, baby's gone, she
She crawled right in, oh my, she crawled right in my
So hologramic, oh my TVC one five
Oh, so demonic, oh my TVC one five
Maybe if I pray every, each night I sit there pleading
"Send back my dream test baby, she's my main feature"
My TVC one five, he, he just stares back unblinking
So hologramic, oh my TVC one five
One of these nights I may just jump down that rainbow way
Be with my baby, then we'll spend some time together
So hologramic, oh my TVC one five
My baby's in there someplace, love's rating in the sky
So hologramic, oh my TVC one five

I've read this is about a story Iggy Pop told Bowie once: apparently Iggy and his girlfriend were dropping acid, and Iggy hallucinated that his TV ate his girlfriend. Bowie being Bowie, naturally, he takes it a couple steps farther in technological-paranoia-impersonalization-etc.
This is a song about a drug-induced hallucination that Iggy Pop had wherein it appeared that his TV devoured his girlfriend.
Yeah, I believe that the Iggy story is the origin for this one. Sort of unrelated note here, but I know that at least some of the music from Station to Station was meant to be part of the soundtrack for "The Man Who Fell To Earth" and this song always reminds me of the scene where Thomas Newton is sitting and watching the walls of TVs and he is sort of consumed by them. Man, that's a freaky-ass movie.
Just recently watched that movie and you are right!!!

I think Bowie got the number TVC15 from a television production company in New York or something like that. Anyway, for my money it's Bowie's best songs and one of the best ever. How could you not be happy listening to this?
Excellent! The Iggy Pop history bit makes this once beautiful, yet akward, song another perfect song by David Bowie.
I think it goes without saying that TVC15 would be Television Channel 15. Can't be a NY station because been then, channels only went to 13.
It makes so much since now... with Iggy thrown in there. Thanks.

Oh I remember reading that too, this songs kinda like I am the Walrus, only the writer could tell us what it really means.
Not that I am the Walrus was supposed to make sense. :D
It's not like I Am The Walrus, since Lennon has said that the lyrics of the song mean precisely nothing. This song does have some kind of meaning though, however obscure.
This song demonstrates how much of a genius Bowie is (or was).
