Right Lyrics
CHORUS 1
Taking it all the right way
Keeping it in the back
Taking it all the right way
Never no turning back
Never need no
Never no turning back
CHORUS 2
Flying just a sweet place
Coming inside and sail
Flying just a sweet place
Never been known to fail
Never been no
Never been known to fail
Wishing you, wishing that sometimes (sometimes)
Doing it, doing it right, 'til (doing it) one time (one time)
Gets you when you're down
(nobody, nobody, do it again, get off)
Ahhh, sometimes, doing
Wishing sometimes (give it back)
Up there, up there (giving it)
Oh, my darling
(No) Ah, my darling, (giving it) ah (up there) why?
Gimme, gimme, up there, (yeah) gimme, doing
Taking with me (sometimes)
Loving it, doing it (right) 'til (take it) one time
Gimme (doing it)
Giving it (giving it back)
CHORUS 1 (3x)

Anal Sex?? Drugs? Call me innocent, but I always took the song as a bittersweet yet uplifting tune reflecting on life itself...about taking our disappointments and loss and the passage of time the right way - taking it all the right way. And not dwelling on the past and things we cannot change - never no turning back. This song has helped me at different times throughout my life when I needed to be reminded that our time here on Earth is finite and irreplaceable, and about cherishing even the hard times because every unique thing just happens once. And what a gift it is to feel it all - good and bad - and the privelege it is to simply be alive ...
@dude4poz I am totally with you on the real meaning of this song and implications of the lyrics. You stated this so well. Right on, man. Cheers.

this song reminds me of cold winter nights wen i was anorexic. i used to listen to it on repeat as i slept. its also sexually arousing
I do not know why, but I agree with the cold winter nights part, strange when I bought this album in a blazing hot summer & listened for weeks on end in the sun
this is about anal sex, probably with a man, he's on the receiving side as well as the giving side, what we call versatile, but probably more on the receiving side, what we call bottom. The whole song is about the experience of anal sex, how it is pleasurable and confusing. It is also prophetic, talking about coming inside and safe, a thing that will only happen in the 80s with the arrival of HIV and safe sex, he could not know this at that time, he can't also be taken as a drug song disguised as an anal sex song.
Heck yes abt anal sex, and the lyrics and wholly unique five-part patterned singing parts make it so beautiful. A work of art, it echoes the way one's mind goes fragmentary during sex and all gets reduced to one-word, intense expressions. If it's about male-male sex, it's genius that there are several women singing the parts. Great promo video from the 70s on youtube that shows the recording session with Carlos Alomar, his wife Robin Clark, Ava Cherry, and Luther Vandross. The best.
"Why?" just takes the cake.

I\'ve always thought this song was about the hard line of not going back on your addiction. The way he battled drugs and what not helps me strengthen this theory. The anal sex thing seems a bit to easy and funny lol
It's definately about sex. Whether its anal? Could be....but the line "Doing it, doing it right, 'till, ahh time" is definately sexual to me.....We all know what "ahh" time is... ;)
