Trying To Find A Balance Lyrics
[Slug]
They love the taste of blood
Now I don't know what that means, but I know that I mean it
Maybe they're as evil as they seem
Or maybe I only look out the window when it's scenic
"Atmosphere finally made a good record."
Yeah right, that shit almost sounds convincing
The last time I felt as sick and contradictive as this
Was the last time we played a show in Cinnci'
"Get real." they tell me
If only they knew how real this life really gets
They would stop acting like a silly bitch
They would respect the cock whether or not they believed in it
Doesn't take much and that's messed up
Because these people do a lot of simple shit to impress us
While everyone was trying to out-do the last man
I was just a ghost trying to catch some Ms. Pac-man
Hello ma'am, would you be interested
In some sexual positions and emotional investments
See, I'm not insane, in fact I'm kind of rational
When I be askin', "Yo, where did all the passion go?"
East coast, West coast, down South, Midwest
Nowadays everybody knows how to get fresh
Somebody give me a big yes (YES!)
God Bless America, but she stole the B from "Bless" (And kept it!)
Now I'm too fucked up to dance
So I'ma sit with my hand down the front of my pants
You can't achieve your goals if you don't take that chance
So go pry open that trunk and get those amps (You know!)
[Chorus x2]
In the days of Kings and Queens I was a jester
Treat me like a God, oh they treat me like a leper
You see me move back and forth between both
I'm trying to find a balance
I'm trying to build a balance
[Slug]
So now I keep a close eye on my pets
Because they make most of they moves off of instinct and sense
It's eat, sleep, fuck in self defense
So straight you can set your clocks and place bets
Wait, let's prey on blind, deaf, dumb, dead
Hustle, maybe a couple will love what you said
Emcees drag their feet across a big naked land
With an empty bag of seed and a fake shake of hands
Yeah I got some last words, FUCK ALL OF YA'LL!
Stop writin' raps and go play volleyball
Gotta journey the world in a hurry
Cause my attorney didn't put enough girls on the jury
Guilty of droppin' these bombs in the city
But I'm innocent, love is the motive that's why you're killin 'em
Guilty of settin' my fire in all fifty
But I'm innocent, blame it on my equilibrium
[Chorus x2]
In the days of Kings and Queens I was a jester
Treat me like a God, oh they treat me like a leper
You see me move back and forth between both
I'm trying to find a balance
I'm trying to build a balance
I gotta find my balance
I gotta find my balance
[Slug]
Now all my friends are famous
It's either one thing or another
They all don't know what my name is
Probably know both of my brothers
The one is a hard workin' savior
The other's a hard workin' soldier
I'm just your next door neighbor
Workin' hard at tryin' to stay sober
You wait for the car at the corner
Pretend like you know what the plot is
Won't quit till I hit California
And make you my Golden State goddess
They love the taste of blood
Now I don't know what that means, but I know that I mean it

hahaha its not "i was justa ghost trying to catch some respect man" haha how does that make sense, i saw slug live at warped tour, i belive the actual line is "i was just a ghost trying to get somones pac-man" doesnt that make a whoel lot more sense? lol or has knowone ever palyed pacman? lol great song... everyone needs balance. i love the beginning when the beat drops and sean starts rapping. when i saw him live he made very interesting hints about this song, he would be like "the last tiem i felt as sick an contradicted...." then the beat would stop and he would say point out that contradictive is actually not a word.
I thought it was just a ghost trying to catch Mrs. Pac man.... Also, I will throw in my piece on this contradictive thing, it is NOT a real word, ther is no adjective contradictive that I have ever heard of, and the line is as sick and contradicted as this!!

"i was just a ghost trying to catch some miss pac-man" come on kids
Just to throw my two cents:
I'm pretty sure the lyric is "I was just a ghost trying to catch some Ms. Pac-Man". Meaning he was more concerned with getting girls while everyone else was trying to "outdo the last man". The "Ghost" may reference the fact that he has light skin, a fact which he mentions in some of his other songs, but maybe not.
Also, I'm pretty sure the lyric is "So now I keep a close eye on my pets / Because they make most of they moves off of instinct and SCENTS".
Atmosphere's lyrics always confuse the shit out of me, but that's also why I love em. Great song. Awesome delivery.
uhm, musiking. it is definitely "instinct and SENSE" if you listen to it closely, it is pretty obvious. and if you have seen him live, then you would know. :].
Anybody notice how when slug writes a song about his everyday life such as:"aspiring sociopath","like today" but especially "Always coming back home to you" Slug never portrays himself as a thug or "gangsta" from the streets like a lotta rappers do, and its obvious he hasn't lived the average straight edge side of american life either. the way i see it this is where trying to find a balance comes from and pretty much defines his music as different.
In the days of Kings and Queens I was a jester Treat me like a God, oh they treat me like a leper You see me move back and forth between both I'm trying to find a balance I'm trying to build a balance I might be getting off here but perhaps the days of Kings and Queens is a reference to his high school days (Prom Queens, jocks, kings of school etc.) And Slug was the class clown, see the name "Sad clown bad dub" "I'm trying to build a balance" - either refering to his family/kids or the music genre he calls indie rap
This song is about other rappers and the music industry. He's sick of the BS other rappers are coming out with hence the "Yeah I got some last words, FUCK ALL OF YA'LL! Stop writin' raps and go play volleyball." The song points out the fact that he loves what he does cause he loves the rhymes not the money or benefits of being a rapper, e.g. Cause my attorney didn't put enough girls on the jury Guilty of droppin' these bombs in the city But I'm innocent, love is the motive that's why you're killin 'em Guilty of settin' my fire in all...

You have to understand how Rhymesayers has stayed together despite major labels trying to sign most of the artists on that label to understand this song.
There's several mistakes in the lyrics above.
great song. 'hello ma'am, would you be interested in some sexual positions and emotional investments.' has to be one of the great pick-up lines of all time.
incorrect, It's instinct and "sense". Having:
"Because they make most of they moves off of instinct and -sex- It's eat, sleep, -fuck- in self defense"
The words "Sex" and "Fuck" would be redundent. It's ok, I used to think it was sex too, but "Sense" makes so much more sense in the context :p "Instinct and Sense" is basically how we base all our actions.
Besides that, I heard this song on Loveline and the next day became a major fan of atmosphere. I had all the music, but hadn't listened to it all religously until this song :)
instinct and scents.
instinct and scents.
I believe it IS sense, not sex.... Mainly because the follow up line finishes with self-defense, which rhymes better with sense than sex, but I could be wrong there just a thought!!

The city mentioned is "the last time we played a show in Cinnci" should be Cincy (minor point i know) as in Cincinnati (the "Nasty 'Nati"... lol)....
Great song though... just heard it for the first time included as part of the Tony Hawk Underground 2 soundtrack.
haha it was hilarious on the warped tour, he said "Atmosphere finally made a good sandwhich.. yeah right that shit almost sounds convincing" and like poker-face said, he also said "the last time i felt as sick and contradictive is this, fuck it i made that word up, it doesnt exist" or something like that
