At the End Of August Lyrics
Crawling from the floor,
I've been there before.
There I was staring
back at the bottom.
Let's just make this clear,
it came from these tears.
Carved across our chest, loyalty.
And with the new light,
there was young hope,
to underline the meaning,
and carve our names in.
At the end of August, the end of...
At the end of August, the end of...
I'll never replace the ones I first made, Jesus, does anyone?
So I lit lanterns,
to light up all these words.
Looking back I know
it's what I'd die for.
And through all of this life,
smashed away all the strife,
a friendship I paint, untouchable.
And I want you to know,
how all of you made me,
how all of you saved me and,
I'll never replace the ones I first made, Jesus, does anyone?
I've been there before.
There I was staring
back at the bottom.
Let's just make this clear,
it came from these tears.
Carved across our chest, loyalty.
there was young hope,
to underline the meaning,
and carve our names in.
At the end of August, the end of...
I'll never replace the ones I first made, Jesus, does anyone?
to light up all these words.
Looking back I know
it's what I'd die for.
And through all of this life,
smashed away all the strife,
a friendship I paint, untouchable.
how all of you made me,
how all of you saved me and,
I'll never replace the ones I first made, Jesus, does anyone?

The chorus and the overall song meaning to me, kind of reminds me of how we never have those friends we do as when we're young. Much like from the movie "Stand By Me" based on the Stephen King short story, which ends with the main character/narrator ending the movie writing his book and the last lines are something about never having friends like when you're 12, "Jesus, does anyone?".
This song is obviously about friendship and the love that friends share.
i agree with friedfrognuts, and i'll add, not forgeting who you are and the people that have been true to you. this mite possibly be about 36CF's break into the music industry and them never forgetting who was always there for them during their younger years.

amen, you guys are right. an i think the 'end of august' might be when the band has to leave for tour or something.
some fan you are razor.
Razor, you're a crappy fan. As for this song, it seems like its about when Brock is down(Crawling from the floor, I've been there before. There I was staring back at the bottom), his friends are always there for them and always have been, and he can never replace them(I'll never replace the ones I first made. Jesus, does anyone?). After just short of ten years, 36 Crazyfists has definately proven their ability to grow and change as musicians and people. Amazing song, regardless of what Razor says.
Yeah who gives a shit if a song is aggresive? These songs are melodic as hell! And Waterhaul and Kenai are still pissed-off
every one's right about that friendship thing
This is, as everybody says, about friendship.
"And I want you to know, how all of you made me, how all of you saved me and, I'll never replace the ones I first made, Jesus, does anyone?" He's saying how without all his friends he couldn't do it. They saved him.
I also kind of have a feeling, even though its kind of vague, that "At the end of August" means like when he was young, and you know how school usually starts for kids in August? that the kids he first befriended that first month of school, in August, by the end of it they were the ones who he stuck with, and he always will.
I definitely agree with the friendship thing.
I just got home from seeing these guys again, they do not disapoint...
