Status Seeker Lyrics
Heart sick at the sight of the
Status Seeker
In a sense I'm not beyond reproach
the aspiration to drop a name
When any rose might smell the same
Maybe you'll figure it out someday
"I want to know you now...
You know I've always believed in you."
Chorus
Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see
In a garden where the seeds were
spilled
I favored the few that stood strong
in the sun
As I reached for the profit of my prize
I found I had trampled the forgotten
ones
Chorus
You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away
Chorus
You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away

Highly underrated. The intro to this song has one of the greatest melodies on the album.

Seemingly about: a. People who are easily swayed by money, and b. People who support only in the light of success
It's how people don't take you seriously, as a band, until you're signed to a big label. I heard it in some Dream Theater documentary.
"I want to know you now... You know I've always believed in you."
I believe this song is about a person who thinks highly of someone that is like a celebrity, but they are just people like you or me "The aspiration to drop a name When any rose might smell the same Maybe you'll figure it out someday". I also see that this person (celebrity) would change their opinion if they would get money from it "You draw the bottom line With a dollar sign Change of opinion At the drop of a dime". Now, i'm not 100% certain these lyrics mean what i think they mean but i know that it is about a person that thought highly of someone and is now turning away from that person, because they "refuse to believe".
My view changed on this song, i believe this to be about narcissists. Status Seeker/Attention Seeker "Are you sanctified in your Judgment of me? All that I deserve is what you were Unable to see" This seems like a quote from someone who has had a bad experience with a narcissist, saying "Are you justified by your judgment of me? i deserve more than you can see". "Change of opinion At the drop of a dime" Changing their opinion to make themselves look better than what they really are, lying. "Nothing is sacred" Nothing/nobody can be trusted by the narcissist due to their personality/ The person affected by the narcissist finds it hard to trust new people due to the horrible time with the narcissist. "I want to know you now You know I've always believed in you." The person has fell in love with the narcissist. "You're running in circles And I'm turning away You refused to believe Now I'm turning away" Can be translated to "You will never change, now i'm leaving you because you refused to care for someone other than yourself". Again, just my interpretation, may be right, may be wrong.
This is probably their cheesiest song. Still, I like it.
Exactly how is it cheesy?

@Psych0tr0non friend, @Seppuku is probably one of those "intellectual" beings who ONLY appreciates 10+ minute songs without over-expressed backing vocals on the chorus, not-so melodic songs and the non-repetitive lyrics. They hate everything else except Pink Floyd and DT's prog metal songs. That's their thing you know, expressing their IQ through music.
