Blood Clots And Black Holes Lyrics

here's your new drug
shoot it in the left eye
feel it on the right side
no it's not love
though it sets up shop behind your ribcage
building blood clots and black holes
like using an axe to pull
a sliver from your skin

and they say this is medicine
an overdose of oxygen
a severed head as sedative
to be at peace would be a sin
and surely un-american
i'm breaking

here's your new blood
transfusion took us all night
tell us that you're all right
no it's not love
though feels like fire inside of your veins
burning right beneath the wrist
begging for a razor's kiss
to free it from your skin

and they say this is medicine
an overdose of oxygen
a severed head as sedative
to be at peace would be a sin
and surely unamerican
i'm breaking down

lift the veil, it's not medicine
and my heart fails, time and time again

Another one of the better songs off the artist in the ambulance. The best i can really make out of this song is basically summerized in the line - "lift the veil, it's not medicine" medicine being a false sense of purpose or reason being given to you as truth or comfort (from whomever you want/feel, Gov't, religions, people etc..) and the overall obsurdity of this tactic that for some reason has been so successful. I dunno maybe i'm way off....

"lift the veil, it's not medicine and my heart fails, time and time again"

I could be wrong, but I really took this to mean a drug addiction (as well as other self injurious behaviors) and telling him to 'lift the veil' and that this isn't medicine to make someone get better, it's a drug that kills. This seems to match the rest of the song too, talking about using drugs as a distraction to free someone from pain and to 'be at sin'

testing something, sorry

sorry, I meant "to be at peace," that makes a LOT more sense.

I think this song is about love. He is explaining what love is and what it does to you by comparing it to other things. In the first verse he says that the drug is not love, but it does have the same characteristics that love does. It "sets up shop behind your ribcage," which is where you heart is.

And in the last stanza when he says "lift the veil, it's not medicine and my heart fails, time and time again," I think he's saying that he's incapable of love. His heart fails to love.

I love the drum line in the beginning of this song and how it is sung. It is no less than a beautiful work of art.

this is maybe the best song on the album.it is my fav. i would have to agree on sinamor on the meaning of the song. it has to be on drugs

i dont got a lot of time so imma make it short, sorry if it doesnt make sense, or if its off.

i agree with sinamor and invitalis, but i also think its about suicide where he says, "burning right beneath the wrist begging for a razor's kiss to free it from your skin." so its dealing with common fallacies of America. "to be at peace would be a sin and surely un-american." so its like, these things are so common in America to not be effected by them, or take part in them, would make u un-american. thats what i think. peace.

I've asked Dustin (the guy who wrote this song...) about the meaning behind this and he said that he doesn't like to talk too much about the meanings cos he likes them to be open to interpretation, but he did say "It's nothing to do with drugs, it concerns truth", take from that what you want, but just so you all know that it's not about drugs, Thrice don't do drugs.

@DEADBOLT03 No the members of Thrice do not do drugs. He said similar things when asked about his solo album and the song "Blood and Wine" which is a tribute to an Elvis song "it's alright" but he changed the words to be about blatant heroin use. I've met Dustin a few times after shows and he is very mysterious in his ways, soft spoken, and humble.

i belive this song is a metophor about what society induces into our lives and how it overcomes our so called fredoms. rejecting these views would be un-american. this song lets me know that me know that i'm not standing in my corner by myself.
