drift away Lyrics
Wow, no comments on this song? I'm rather suprised. Then again, most probably only remember this song for the Unkle Kracker version.
Not that there's anything wrong with that version, but I love this version as well. Very simple, soulful sound with great use of the guitar.
Love the message of the song as well. People on this site probably get the whole idea of music being more than sound, and about how it can become an experience far beyond that of just listening.
This is a classic, and one of my favorites.
Uncle Kracker's version - or is that Unkle Kracker? Who knows - has better fidelity and sounds more modern, but I prefer the vocals in Dobie Gray's version. And whatever rock n' roll Dobie Gray was talking about, it sure wasn't of the "heavy metal" variety :-).
I don't know why but I dislike Uncle Kracker's version but love Dobie Gray's. It's really soothing and nice. I love this song!
@AmberAmelia I sometimes like the Uncle Kracker one, I have to be in the right mood for it. BUT THIS ONE!!! THIS ONE gives me goosebumps and is soooooooo soothing and nice!!! I also love it!!! It is also the original!!

It is a shame there are so little comments on this song. It gives me goosebumps everytime i listen to it. There is SOUL in this song unlike any other and i hope that YOU one day TOO can find it, hear it, and feel it as much as Jeffyhash, stoolhardy, AmberAmelia, filmgirl79, Ultimate Panopticon?, and no code88 DID!
I don't know Unkle Kracker's version, but this song gives me such a mellow vibe. Pefect song when picturing a sweet jam session. Ahhh...I love it.
I absolutely love this song [: I love the Dobie Gray version way better than the Uncle Kracker version..
I just find it to be so calming and soulful. I have a soft spot for music from the 60's, 70's and 80's also.
I think this song is about how a song can make you feel better about things. I think this song is about music and how it can impact people greatly.. How you can got lost in music and drift away when listening to it.
AmberAmelia, I'm with you all the way.
This song could also be called - Why I love r'n'r- . I really love r'n'r....I love it.
Nalaniz said it well...its just so compelling, heart-felt. The music takes him away....
This song has so much more soul when it's the Dobie Gray version somehow... but i love the thought of music being the river that carries one away.
"And when my mind is free You know a melody can move me And when I'm feelin' blue The guitar's comin' through to soothe me Thanks for the joy that you've given me I want you to know I believe in your song Rhythm and rhyme and harmony You help me along makin' me strong"
i've always wanted to write an e-mail or a letter to this musical artist i've been listening to since i was about 16, and put that very stanza in it. i think he'd appreciate it, and it's true. his music has helped me along.
