The meaning is pretty straightforward, the guy's in love with the girl and compares her to a gem.
But...
I'm a huge baseball fan, and my long-ago boyfriend used to call me "Diamond Girl" as in baseball diamond. I still consider it a compliment.
The lyrics are beautiful,I loved it when he played it. :) "Oh my love, you're like a precious stone, part of earth where heaven has rained on." I love those lines the best. :)
I always felt that this song was very strange... Full of very serious and almost spooky minor chords that, to me, don't sound like an ordinary love song.
Call it the "choppin' broccoli" syndrome... In which the music is much more serious-sounding than the lyrics are.
@Austin63 maybe that’s the point though, having a more serious instrumental to provide depth to lyrics that are kept simple in order to not be off putting and creepy lol some of the lyrics in this song almost border being a little too deep that they’re pretty sexual/creepy
