Yule Shoot Your Eye Out

This is an amazing Christmas song (the only tolerable one, in my opinion), and it brings back quite a few fond, bitter holiday memories...sniffle

"These are your good years, don't take my advice, you never wanted the nice boys anyway" It seems that he's speaking from a father figure who's given up on his daughter (pretty much STRICTLY in this line). In other words, 'Even though I don't want you to, you're young, and you'll hang out with/date the bad kids no matter what I say'.

"And I'm of good cheer, cause I've been checking my list" In the eyes of a greedy, bitter person, they're happy when they don't give/spend a lot on others.

"The gifts you're receiving from me will be: one awkward silence and two hopes you cry yourself to sleep staying up waiting by the phone" First off, this is a discrete little play on words. Fall Out Boy is good with that :) It's speaking as if it's naming quantities of things on a list, as well as just naming them off (1- Awkward Silence, 2- Hopes). Also, he doesn't just not want her, but he wants her to want him and wait for him to call.

"All I want this year's for you to dedicate your last breath to me before you bury yourself alive" In other words, 'If I could have one wish, it would be for you to die lonely, still wanting me'.

"Don't come home for Christmas, you're the last thing I wanna see underneath the tree" He doesn't want her to surprise him with anything, he just wants her to go away.

"Merry Christmas, I could care less" He's a scrooge :)

"Happy New Years, baby, you owe me the best gift I will ever ask for" It's after Christmas, and she obviously came around anyways, because she didn't give him the gift that he wanted (which was for her to stay away).

"Don't call me up when the snow comes down, it's the only thing I want this year" Another small 'play on words' about up and down, possibly describing their relationship.

Maybe I got a little too analytical on some of those, but that's my opinion on it :) Merry Christmas!

wow.. i love this song.. this was my christmas anthem for 2003 i loved it every single snowy day because i was in love the last christmas and then i broke up and then i hear this from a friend and then im hooked.
