Plasticine Lyrics

Beauty lies inside the eye of another youthful dream
That doesn't sell it's soul for self-esteem
That's not plasticine
Beauty lies inside desire and every wayward heart redeemed
That doesn't sell it's soul for self-esteem
That's not plasticine

Don't forget to be the way you are [x4]

The only thing you can rely on is that you can't rely on anything
Don't go and sell your soul for self-esteem
Don't be plasticine

Don't forget to be the way you are [x4]
And don't forget to be the way you are [x4]
The way you are...

People take the saying "be yourself" way too seriously! As humans each and every one of us is unique and complex beyond simplistic comprehension. For example, I have many facets to my personality. I have a hardcore, moshing metal head, talkative, weird and crazy side to me. Then I also have a pro peace and human rights, quiet, poetic, Coldplay/ CrashCarBurn/ Placebo loving side to me. There's so much more to me and I consider it all apart of me and what makes me who I am. So to say that if we were all ourselves we wouldnt have any friends, sounds kinda ludicrous to me. Why wouldnt we have friends? Yeah, sure some people pretend around their friends, but thats not everyone. There's a difference between being yourself and being a different version of yourself. And true friends love you for who you are and not who you pretend to be.

As I see it, this song is about not moulding yourself according to other peoples expectations of you. Dont succumb to social norms and peer pressure. Being what society deems to be acceptable or beautiful might boost yourself esteem, but it fades with youth and then you are left with nothing, but yourself. So its better to love who you are and not rely on others to make you feel worthy.

Great song by a great band! :)

Mmm I like this

That said, the lounge version to this song is better suited, if you ask me

Plasticine is like a clay that can be molded into any shape and size. Kind of how some people change everything about themselves just so other people approve of them. Selling your soul for self-esteem. Typical problem found in teens. I know the pressure of wanting to fit in so this song speaks to me.

nice!

thanks!bec the song's meaning got more clear for me.

I used to be like that, but I am changed now...need no body else to gain something for myself.

This is saying how people are attracted superficial people, who only care about looks, when its whats inside that counts. People are so obsessed with being someone that they're not that they change like plasticine from situation to situation.

Always be yourself

I agree with duff here.

"Beauty lies inside the eye of another youthful dream that doesnt sell its soul for self-esteem"

This has pretty much got to mean , what people think is beautiful is just young niave dreams .. the real "beautiful" people are the ones who can just be themselves no matter what.

Great song - as everyone else has said it's about true beauty residing in someone who has the courage to actually be themselves.

of course, they didn't make this song because it's obvious that you should "be yourself" since that is such the favourite of cliches. we've been told over and over again to be ourselves, yet a whole amount of kids aren't following it... i don't blame them though--- if you think about it, it's extremely difficult trying not to rely on role models when you're still young enough to have your personality moulded by others every single minute anyway.

Agreed. These songs kind of annoying me meaning-wise, because no matter what is said, no one is going to be completely themselves around people. If I was completly myself I'd have no friends. I put foward most of my personality but the things that are too 'extreme' you have to hide. Although on the other hand when people are just being a certain way to gain acceptance, and they're being exactly like other people ofa certain group that's pathetic. But kids can't help it really.
