Something Rotten Lyrics
It seems we're here I
Miss you something rotten
The stinks are here
It's guaranteed all's forgotten
Down here
Down here it's clear that your uncut
Don't fear
Don't fear, keep all this forgotten
Face down
Face down
Face down, I miss you something rotten
Face down
Face down, this crown is broken rotten
Down here, down here, I know its not, it's all forgotten
Down here, down here, face down, I miss you something rotten
Down here, down here, it stinks, it stinks of something rotten
Don't fear, don't fear, keep all this forgotten
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here...
Miss you something rotten
The stinks are here
It's guaranteed all's forgotten
Down here
Down here it's clear that your uncut
Don't fear
Don't fear, keep all this forgotten
Face down
Face down
Face down, I miss you something rotten
Face down
Face down, this crown is broken rotten
Down here, down here, face down, I miss you something rotten
Down here, down here, it stinks, it stinks of something rotten
Don't fear, don't fear, keep all this forgotten
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here
There's something rotten down here...

i agree withich lecke Koffer... but did you know your name means I lick suitcases? thats rather odd.
Hey..that's what Brian said in an interview :
"It's about child abuse, but not necessarily sexual abuse. It could be pyhsical or mental. When I sang the lyric it was just completely off the top of my head, and we never changed it. It just kind of stayed there because it captured a real atmosphere -- very sinister an creepy. It came to be about a young person very desperate to get out of a family environment situation for whatever reasons. It's a song that people can interpret in a hundred different ways."
And I think that's really what you can hear in the song. The pain, the feeling to stick in a strange situation, not to be able to go on...to desperate...everything that is completely out of time...that's my opinion.
i think it has a NIN undertone to it... i like the repetition too
Personally, I could never get tired of Brians voice. It's far too beautiful. He has said the song is about child abuse.
The 'Miss you' part probably addresses the good part of the abuser that the one that's abused once knew. And he's holding onto that memory ('Down here it's clear that you're uncut'). He keeps pleading that the abuser starts to be good again, but all this time the protagonist is not doing anything to change his situation. He reminds himself to stay low, look down, stay on the ground, as to give his abuser no reason to go on abusing him.
And the protagonist knows that something is wrong with this situation because he misses 'something rotten' but smells its stinky smell at the same time. But he can't make up his mind about it, because he tries to forget what happens to him.
brian metions that this song is about abuse. domestic or relatioship wise. the song is creepy. but good creepy. if there is such a thing.
ehh i guess it could have a great message if it wasnt so droning on and on and on... a five minute song is kindof hard to listen to a lot, especially with all this repetition. "i mis you something rotten" thats a great line but once you hear that once the rest of the song is useless
it sounds like he's singing this from a sewer. in a good way
I like this song because I have a difficult time focusing on lyrics, especially if I'm doing something else at the same time. In this case I get to listen to Brian's pretty, pretty voice with no worry at all about the fact I'm not paying attention to what he's saying.
I know this song is supposed to be about abuse (I heard it was about child abuse...) but it sounds sexy, despite it's meaning.
