Hot One Lyrics
Well you're the grand wild
Have you noticed
When you walk in all the fairy boys are
pale and nervous
Well my starship doesn't want me
And neither does his world
I'm glad I caught you on my
view screen, Sailor
You're the grand Wilde
Come and court me
'Cause this wooing
Is what I'm wanting
When my spacesuit comes to warm me
And hold me like a god
I am the captain of the gravity, Maxwell
Everywhere I see your faces
Hot One
From the starship over Venus
to the Sun
But, it's a crime!
You're mistaken!
A momentary seizure...of love
Oh, love
Well you're the grand wild
But Darling, I'm a mess I've got to
humanize my wrinkled form
But the boys are not impressed
When my spaceship comes to orbit
Just hold me like a girl
I'll be the captain of the gravity, Maxwell
I see your faces in the strangest places
Hot One
From the starship over Venus
to the Sun
But, it's a crime!
You're mistaken!
Momentary seizure...of love
Oh, love
Hot One
From the starship over Venus
to the Sun
But, it's a drag!
You're so mean,
Destroying my belief in, in love
Oh, love.
Have you noticed
When you walk in all the fairy boys are

And neither does his world

ilove shudder to think and this song. i think its about how your see beautiful people or hot ones everywhere you go and how they can make you feel something so quick which is not the way love should be and it 'destroying my belief in love'
Actually, it's not 'you're the grand WILDE,' it's 'you're the grand ONE.'
Regardless, I absolutely love this song--it really makes the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack worth buying.
Whoever posted this really f'ed up the lyrics. But anyhoo, I think it's about seeing a person that you wish you were, and are jealous of, but don't have the courage to be. Excellent movie and wonderful soundtrack!!!
These lyrics are all fucked up. It's "this wooing is one of mourning" for one and for two...nevermind. Great movie and soundtrack.
A damn good song.. The lyrics are a tad out of whack, but in songmeaning's defense, his lyrics can be difficult to understand.
My take is that he's fallen for someone out of outer beauty. That's not love. "Momentary seizure of love" But apparently there's nothing other than physical beauty to this person... "It's a drag, you're so mean, destroying my belief in love"
aetherunicorn, i think it does have grand wilde in it, because in the movie, curt wilde is the descendant supposedly of oscar wilde, which would make sense, meaning that slade is singing mostly about curt in this song.
it's not slade, first off, and curt wild has nothing to do with oscar wilde - in the film it's jack fairy who finds his pin (but there's no implication that he's his descendant)... anyway, i love this song. i do think the line "this wooing is one of mourning" is painfully beautiful. also, it is very nice to wail tunelessly along to in an exaggeratedly camp fashion, waving lipstick and boas about (but in slow motion, obviously, like a sad clown)
I always thought he was saying "hold me like a gun". For some reason I always really liked that image...
I always heard "it's a crime, your mistique" in the chorus.

dreams of Angie go to buildings on electric guitars with SWAGS cause we've got no choice and don't ask why we're alive - WE ARE THE GETTING BY - so check it before you wreck it so monumentally trapped up in pride with yellow fleeting moments on Heraclitus and her two sun kings
