Off Broadway Lyrics
This isn't at all unpleasant. I'm enchanted by the lavish ballet, and I'll whistle the tune all the way to the gallows that I heard at the cabaret. At the sheriffs signal, the orchestra moves the floor. Don't it make you feel wonderful. Body twisting strictly ballroom. Criminally elegant, ideal postured viennese waltzer. I'm dressed to kill. I'm weightless and well rehearsed. In my godless opera my character is canonized. Unhand me. This is a musical and nothing goes wrong. Can't keep the classics out of the head of the masochists. Strike up the band. It's 245 beats for a measure or 5 beats per 6 steps on alternating feet. The show must go on. I don't feel at all like I thought I would, but I could probably go on like this forever. Tonight, we dance, for tomorrow they release the dogs. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3. Keep it up. 1, 2, 3. Savor it. Where is my head? Where is my heart? Everything vanishes.

keith has said when performing this song live that it's about "the beauty of lying to yourself every day"
all the stuff about classical executions is correct, but it serves as a metaphor for the real meaning of the song. you can especially tell at the end when he says "where is my head? / where is my heart?" people put up such fronts in their lives that they lose sight of everything real
but it doesn't matter because keeping up appearances and investing in materialism and decadence can be consuming enough that leading an empty life can still be entertaining ("i'll whistle the tune all the way to the gallows...")
"Tonight, we dance, for tomorrow they release the dogs"
I heart that line. I wanna dance with someone to this song<3.
you could dance with me
babycakes
teeehehehehehehehe i am so mischievous
The best line is "This is a musical and nothing goes wrong."
I love the irony in it. A motto of my life.
I, like, just started listening to them and I already love ETID.
The whole, "1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. Keep it up. 1, 2, 3." part makes me wanna just jump around throwing my fist in the air screaming.
This is a definate mosh song.
I know exactly what you mean, "1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. Keep it up. 1, 2, 3." Makes me wish I was in the pit at that second.
i'm pretty sure this song is about sex :)
Love it
I thought it was just about dancing but you know i guess it could be about sex.
i don't know, it seems like all of ETID's songs are about sex, maybe the title is a complete giveaway and the song is about a musical.
or not, because keith is a genius when it comes to writing songs.
