On And Off Again Lyrics
I've come to fill you up
I've come to taste the price I'll pay
I've come to leave a note
I've come to see you on and off again
There have been tragic affairs
Ever so unreliable
And I could just see through
these fingers and give it one more try
But nothing stays the same
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
I've changed, become another
The one you used to stalk is real
I've come to make it better
I've come to see you through the end again
And all the rumours in this house
Ever so unreliable
I would neglect them
If only lies gave us one more try
But nothing stays the same
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
I've come to know the reasons
I've come to realize the truth
'Cause though I leave he waiting
She knows I'll turn against myself again
But nothing stays the same
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
I am so amazed I am so amazed
That nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same
I've come to taste the price I'll pay
I've come to leave a note
I've come to see you on and off again
Ever so unreliable
And I could just see through
these fingers and give it one more try
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
The one you used to stalk is real
I've come to make it better
I've come to see you through the end again
Ever so unreliable
I would neglect them
If only lies gave us one more try
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
I've come to realize the truth
'Cause though I leave he waiting
She knows I'll turn against myself again
I stand in my own way
I hear you called again
I know not what to say
That nothing stays the same
Nothing stays the same

Sondre Lerche is, in a word, brilliant. His songs are simple and beautiful. This one, I feel is about just the instability of one who is trying to find himself and at the same time figure his place in a relationship he knows is a healthy one. Knowing that it's his own issues that cause him to want what he can't bring himself to understand the path he needs to take. delicious song.
i agree
i feel this song is about an unfaithful and somewhat painful relationship. the narrator wishes he could give it another try, to patch things up, but he also finds himself changed by the relationship into someone he doesnt necessarily want to be. it seems evident that the relationship has been tenuous before, and the narrator likewise finds it difficult to leave, whether based on continued feelings or on time invested.
There's also another line, "Your flowers are replaced". It's like some time after the end of their relationship he returns to her house for some reason, maybe because of her call. Also says "I've come to know the reasons", repeats it at the end, seems to be wondering if they still have a future together too. He has mixed feelings, and he's "surprised" to see things have changed, life goes on for her as reflected on her house, nothing is the same and he's the only one standing in his own way to end it, as she's moved on. You can never be sure with Sondre's lyrics though!
Well, I listened to this song for the first time some hours ago and it made no sense to me, but loved it so listened to it a few more times and this kinda works. But the music tells the feelings best and he definitely sounds quite in love and caring and starting to be quite heartbroken..
