and you walked out when i asked you to stay
ass usual you will get your way
you closed the door and shuffled down
to the street
where you wring your hands
and drag your feet
where the words can't find you
to crawl inside you
i'm ringing all the warning bells
careful or you'll hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
i'll be the one to tell you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
gonna try, try, try 'til the morning comes
but you can't hide standing under these stars
they know everything they know where you are
you're in your head you're all turned around
with it
and they're shining down their light to bring
you back again
back where I can find you
to crawl inside you
i'm ringing all the warning bells
careful or you'll hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
i'll be the one to tell you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
gonna try, try, try till the morning comes
all you want to see is make believe
but way down underneath
i'm ringing all the warning bells
careful you don't hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
i'll be the one to tell you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
gonna try, try, try till the morning comes
ass usual you will get your way
you closed the door and shuffled down
to the street
where you wring your hands
and drag your feet
to crawl inside you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
gonna try, try, try 'til the morning comes
they know everything they know where you are
you're in your head you're all turned around
with it
and they're shining down their light to bring
you back again
to crawl inside you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
i'll be the one to tell you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
gonna try, try, try till the morning comes
all you want to see is make believe
but way down underneath
careful you don't hurt yourself
others lie, lie, lie, they adore you
careful or you'll hurt yourself
gonna try, try, try till the morning comes

I think this is about a girl who has just broken up with the narrator. He still loves her, and isn't hurt so much as worried that anyone else she gets involved with will hurt her: "Others lie, lie, lie and say they adore you."
This is my favorite Guster song. <3
I love this song, and I think it is about someone who is trying to protect the one they love-even if they do not love them back.
It's a rather jealous breakup song. He's saying that she didn't know how good she had it with him, and shouldn't expect better.
i think it's about being in a relationship with someone who is very self-conscious and insecure, and possibly has psychological problems. as a result of this, the person needs constant reassurance that they are loved and wanted by the other person (the speaker).
ass usual?!
I saw that too. Bahahaha.
I saw that too. Bahahaha.
Now that I've read the lyrics again, it actually isn't a jealous breakup song. It sounds like a song written after he had a fight with his girl, perhaps resulting in a "breakup." She is insecure and needs to be constantly reassured, that I see - but she only hears what she wants to hear from people, and can't stand it when the truth told to her is disagreeable. She must have fought with him at one point where the truth hurt her too much. She'd rather live in a world of make believe, but she needs him to knock some sense into her so she can live in the real world. From the rest of the songs on this album, especially "Amsterdam," I'd guess that she is idle and is high all the time, and he's the only thing that she has that is grounded in reality in her life. She wants to leave the relationship and go into the fantasy world of Amsterdam, something she probably says in many of her drug-induced conversations.
great song
Listen to "One Hundred Years" by The Cure... this song contains a part of that song, but Guster used it very well.
sorry i meant "In Between Days" by The Cure... typed the wrong song
