You misspelled "pray" which is so significant. If you don't know that this song is a prayer, you will never figure out its meaning. He is on his knees, praying for the light, which is Jesus, to show him the path. This may be inspired by "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." He can't stay on the path, he goes astray, and gets lost unless he has Jesus to light his way.

Hehe is it just me or do the google ads seem to agree with insect? I think they are both right though. I don't know what kind of spiritual beliefs CC has, but this song and so many others seem to be about Christianity. Its a prayer...and a rather straightorward song...which makes me worry that I'm not reading enough into it. lol
CHris cornell is/ or was a catholic (i am not sure which) and this song is very simply a prayer to Jesus, who is the lamp unto my feet. HEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP is what this song means.

Haven't you felt this way at least once a day where you just say "won't You just do it?" or "won't you just tell me what I should do". It's kinda nice to know there's other people who feel the same way, and somebody took the time to write in on paper and throw some music to it. Anyways, on the ironc side, I seem to hear a little bit of Faith No More in the chorus. I'm sure this wasn't on purpose, but I found that to be a little humorus!
