Life Of A Salesman Lyrics
What's a dad for dad?
Tell me why I'm here dad
Whisper in my ear that I'm growing up to be a better man, dad
Everything is fine dad
Proud that you are mine dad
Cause I know I'm growing up to be a better man
Father I will always be
That same boy that stood by the sea
And watched you tower over me
Now I'm older I wanna be the same as you
What's a dad for dad?
Taught me how to stand, dad
Took me by the hand and you showed me how to be a bigger man, dad
Listen when you talk, dad
Follow where you walk, dad
And you know that I will always do the best I can
I can
Father I will always be (always be)
That same boy that stood by the sea
And watched you tower over me (over me)
Now I'm older I wanna be the same as you
The same as you
Father I will always be
That same boy that stood by the sea
And watched you tower over me
Now I'm older I wanna be the same as you
(When I am a dad, dad
I'm gonna be a good dad
Do the best you could, dad
Always understood, dad
Tell me I was right, dad
Opened up my eyes, dad
Glad to call you my, dad
Thank you for my dad)

funny story:
I'm using this song in a picture slideshow for my dad for fathers day, and while I was working my brother came up and said I spelled salesman wrong. I asked what he meant, and he said it was spelled SAILSman. I said "No, that's not a word. Its SALES as in a person who sells things, not SAILS as in boats." He responded "But I thought this song was about a boy whose parents left him on the beach..."
(Father I will always be That same boy that stood by the sea)
It was definitely the funniest thing that happened to me today.
I'm just glad to finally see a band saying praise to the man that gave them life instead of saying how they fucked theire life up. It's about time that we gave thanks instead of pissing and moaning about fucking our lives up, instead of taking responsibilities for our own actions.
oh yeah and all you motherfuckers who dont appreciate the message this song is sending to cherish your parents are probably total assholes who dont fucking think about those who have lost a parent especially a boy with a dad cause i lost mine and this song helps me
thanks Arthur Miller
Yeah dude, I'm pretty sure this song is a response to the play "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller.

this song is actually based on the play "death of a salesman" in which the one son is always trying to impress his father and be like him. so those of you who say it lacks adult content are extremely mistaken. as the song has more depth than you realise, you just need a certain amount of contextual knowledge to realise it.
If you don't like this song, then you are lame. Most every song is about how fucked up their life is thanks to their parents. This one is way better. Neh, I cry when I listen to this song, since I didn't have a dad to answer my questions, or teach me how to walk, or how to tye my shoes. I applaud Yellowcard for not only making this song as catchy as hell, but for actually saying thanks to an adult.
No matter the age I'll be, I'll always appreciate what my parents have done for me. My dad has never had the job he truely loves, but he has always cared for me and my brothers. I am now 18, and I recently moved out of my house, but I still look up at my parents, they're the reason why I am who I am today. I still take their advice, they're still caring for me, and I hope to care for my future children as they have cared for me. My parents are in their late 40s, and they're still appreciating what their parents have done for them. Age shouldn't matter when a man truely expresses his love for his father.
Dude, i can totally relate!! My dad also doesn't like his job cause he has to work with all these a-holes, but he works hard to support his family. I'm 17, and i'm also about to leave home for college. I also still love them, and i hope i can be as good of a parent and they were. ^_^

"Now I'm older, I wanna be the same as you!" :)

this song is amazing. i know i'm not adding much new, but its incredible to see a band that actually can express love and feeling for their father instead of complaining about how much he effed ujp their lives. I love this song so much, it just totally captures all the emotion i feel about my dad, and i just feel if i can ever even become half the man my dad is that i will be a success
I believe this song's meaning kinda goes without saying. I just think it's cool to see a song about somebody's father that doesn't say, "You fucked me up, thanks asshole."
yeah this song has a lot of sentimental value to me because my dad died four years ago and its a totally kickass song
