Ocean Avenue Lyrics

There's a place off Ocean Avenue
Where I used to sit and talk with you
We were both 16 and it felt so right
Sleeping all day, staying up all night
Staying up all night

There's a place on the corner of Cherry Street
We would walk on the beach in our bare feet
We were both 18 and it felt so right
Sleeping all day, staying up all night
Staying up all night

If I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away

There's a piece of you that's here with me
It's everywhere I go, it's everything I see
When I sleep, I dream and it gets me by
I can make believe that you're here tonight
That you're here tonight

If I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away

I remember the look in your eyes
When I told you that this was goodbye
You were begging me not tonight
Not here, not now
We're looking up at the same night sky
And keep pretending the sun will not rise
Be together for one more night
Somewhere, somehow

If I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away

it really pisses me off when people freak out because a band they love starts to get more popular and then they start screaming "sellouts! i hate them now! now i have to go find a new band that no one else knows about until they become more popular" and it's an endless cycle. god stfu, you should be happy that one of your fave bands is becoming more successful rather than being angry at them. i swear some people have no lives.

first of all "sierp" the violin adds a nice touch to the overall sound and differentiates the band from many cliches like "Good Charlotte" or "Sum 41" that sound exactly the same. I wonder why people think violins are pussy, is it because they are included in classical music? Guess what! So is bass, it's called a chello, and guitar, classical guitar. Many good bands have strange instruments, like Dropkick Murphys include a trumpet, but maybe it betters their sound. "Sierp" you are a true stereotype of a prep who thinks he's being cool by using words like assclown and pussy. You probably haven't even ever picked up an instrument in your life so you wouldnt know the toil of the artists.

The song is about a love that was broken up because of moving or going on tour, like said above. I dont really understand the video, with the lamb suitcase, and the people running after him, but oh well.

Isn't this a forum about song meanings, and not negative opinions about bands? Anyways, I loved this song ever since I first heard it when I was 16, and I am now 18! Because of this song being on the radio, I learned about Yellowcard and now they're my favorite band! It always reminds me of the summer back when I first became friends with a girl very special to me...

This song reminds me so much of this girl I knew who killed herself......Especially because of how/why/when.

Especially the lines: "There's a piece of you that's here with me It's everywhere I go, it's everything I see When I sleep, I dream and it gets me by I can make believe that you're here tonight That you're here tonight"

Ughh.....sucks, kinda. But hey.

ANYWAY. To me this song is a "Whatif?" song....it's saying "what if this never happened, what if you never left, why'd you leave, where are you, what if we got back together?"

To all the asshats who posted comments bashing the violin all those years ago; you're all so wrong, so ignorant, and so conceited.

My Opinion

I first heard this song when the music video came on in my local movie theatre prior to the previews. I thought it was so cool I recognized Ocean Avenue and Cherry Street because I live so close to Jersey and spend a lot of time there every summer. Then I did more research and realized the song is about Florida and California... WHOOPS, lol. Either way, this is THE summer song for my age group in the Philly/Jersey area. The street names were just very convienient =).

yes! i get so emotional when i hear this song

I thought it was about the boardwalk too.Definitely a summer beach song-great vibe.
