I feel it's necessary to explain how I view the chorus before I explain the rest of the song:

Alright, alright My feet keep on taking me back, back, back to those places Alright, alright My knees keep on shaking from fright, fright, fright

Jimmy Gnecco has said he wrote this song about fear of commitment, but to me it sounds like it could fit ANY negative, debilitating behavior or thought pattern that's difficult to escape from, like pessimism, for example. This is made clear in the chorus: "my feet keep on taking me back to those places" is referring to sinking into said negative behavior and feeling unable to control it. "my knees keep on shaking from fright" is pretty obvious... fear of the consequences of this behavior, or the future it'll bring.

I think the first verse is the narrator analyzing the behavior of others, people who dive into life or relationships, and thinking that even if they end up hurt, their way of life is bolder and more fulfilling than his.

Scared and cold, now you're old Time thaws, but you'll break There's a hole in my soul How much more will it take?

The first two lines of the second verse could be the narrator addressing himself, feeling like time is passing by him as he remains static due to all the chances he misses.

I saw, I saw It moved all of the gray aside

I think this line is the up among all the downs, a positive moment for the narrator when he feels like his life is made better just by looking up and not worrying. The fact that there's another chorus after it just demonstrates how hard it is to escape from negative behavior like fear or depression, because when you have those kinds of issues, the fleeting "high" caused by positive experiences seems far away once again when you realize you actually haven't changed.

This song is extremely significant to me. Definitely my favorite Ours song ever.
