Let's Play Guitar in a Five Guitar Band Lyrics

That was the last time I ever saw her-
through a shop window, sleeves to her elbows.
I walked past and kept on walking
and lit a smoke with my hands shaking.

She was something else

A few summers ago
we spent weeks in her room
just having sex and listening to jazz
and that was the life.

But I didn't know at the time

Blinds drawn at twelve noon
with daylight pouring through
projecting lines on her body

Move on, move on, move on
Smoke your smoke and move on

I should go back
see if she's still there
standing like a statue

The narrator is looking back throughout the song. He's remembering his old girl, but unfortunately he "didn't know at the time, that she was something else," so, the girl got away from him.

Presumably right after they broke up- before he was over her at least- he saw her through a shop window, and instead of trying to talk to her, potentially to reconcile their relationship, he walked past and smoked a cigarette for comfort, telling himself "smoke your smoke, move on."

Now, a "few years" removed from the incident- after realizing that "she was something else" he wishes he could go back to that store window, and she'd still be standing there, "like a statue."

It really is a beautiful, very relatable song.

This song perfectly describes how I hope my exes think about me in a few years. "The one that got away" nostalgia. I love the imagery of "blinds drawn..." It's also my favorite MTB song.

I love the lyrics to this song. Yes, the having sex and listening to jazz... but I love MTB's imagery... blinds drawn at 12 noon. It's just beautiful and puts me in the best mood.

i think this song has to do with maybe the singer dating a model and he sees her picture in a store window one day and recalls the summer he spent with her the "i didnt know at the time" im pretty unsure about...perhaps he didnt know that she would be this famous? or that he would miss her? or maybe its just something not mentioned

No way... He definetely sees the person and not a poster. He's shaking and telling himself to move on-- not to turn back and try to interface with her.

hemingway wrote overly verbose flower prose for his high school paper... went to paris and learned that subtle mastery was the way to really pack an emotional whallop.

that's what that this is, subtle ache. damn. i want to write more like these guys...
