Change My Life Lyrics

car culture looks out at you
driving through a freeway
night on your own
you don't have to please me
or pick up my tab
don't have to go too fast
just change my life
change my life
change my life
change my life

I miss the way you hold yourself
I miss the sense of wonder inside
don't want to be your victims of life
don't want your exclusive rights
I just want you to change my life
change my life
change my life
change my life

This song is pure irony.

The narrator (which could be anybody at some point in their lives) proudly claims that he doesn't want money, fast love, an exclusive relationship, or really anything that people might covet in a relationship. These are also things that a self-centered person would request.

Instead, he just wants the one thing that can't be guaranteed. Because of that, he is actually more conceited.

On the other hand, by the loosest of definitions, "changing someone's life" is the easiest thing in the world: all you've got to to is exist, really. So maybe the song is more direct than I interpret it.

To me this song is about a relationship that is starting to have some troubles.

The main character is driving around town on his own and he is looking for someone to change his life. Give him some meaning so he isn't bored all the time.

The album "Love Ways" I think is in order of how the relationship goes. This is just part one of the relationship having problems.

the whole melody of the song is slow and not as pretty as spoons other works, which is adding to the whole theme of not needing the perfect thing, just the message(not needing to please u just need u to change my life)

imdelay, this song was on Loveways which and was a pretty damn big departure from their work up to this time (Telephono and Series of Sneaks), both of which were punk based. Soft Effects was slower, but not as dreamy as this. I think all the albums you're thinking of were released in the years after this was recorded.

The lyric is "victim for life". I thought this song was about wanting the best parts, the new parts, the fresh parts of a relationship, and saying to hell with what the long term is. It's self-centered in a way. But the desire is for the most raw, real, intense parts of a new, flirtatious, sexual relationship. It's a commitment to not being committed and to securing "the one"; maybe just for a night.
