Two Months Off Lyrics
There was a little drawing of a heart next to that,
Followed by an exclamation mark.
The back of his was covered in stuff... stuff
like: Brandon is not a very nice guy, but Alex is sooo
nice.
And that had the exclaimation thing too.
It was just silly crap that hit the spot.
And he let himself be drawn in.
You bring light in...
To a dark place
Walking in light
Glowing walking in light
Gold ring around you
Tthe hues of you
The golden sunlight of you
You bring light in...
Cool wind following
Following after you
Rising for you
Your skin beautiful
Everything comes natural
Fantastic fan
Rocking rocking floating

While on the surface this song seems happy, there's an underlying sinister feel. It's almost as if the feeling of happiness is about to be taken over by a deep depression. Midway through the track, the spoken prologue gets repeated and is accompanied by a really dark riff. The innocent sounding story about the guy who reads the adolescent style, gossipy doodles and gets 'drawn in' takes on a spookier meaning. Does he become obsessed, jealous, possessive, paranoid even? The song could well be about having a crush on someone, observing them from a distance and fantasising about what it would be like to be with them. Clearly the subject in the song is depressed, because the lyrics include the line 'you bring light in/to a dark place' - he's imagining this woman making him happy and washing away his despair. But as the song progresses, the darkness slowly seeps in, but subtly so...as implied by changes in the music. Karl Hyde's a fantastic lyricist, a real original. His lyrics are poetic, containing vivid imagery...and often he expresses ideas in fragments - i.e. the sentences aren't finished or grammatical. He actually uses a stream of consciousness style, like the beat poets of the 1960s did. Also, he sometimes mixes his own words in with fragments of conversations he has overheard, and it may well be the case that the 'prologue' with the London girl in this track was actually taken from a real conversation. Also, it may be that this spoken part has no relation whatsoever to the rest of the song, and simply inserted for the fun of it, and to playfully lead listeners astray by getting them to speculate about its meaning. Also, the title 'Two Months Off' seems to have no relation to the subject matter of the song. It may have been arbitrarily chosen. All in all though, a fantastic track.
I realy like this song, The epilogue at the beginning by the chick with the london accent just makes me smile i love the part when she says "It was just silly crap that hit the spot. And he let himself be drawn in" i guessin its about a guy who likes someone called Alex, and all the silly stuff is making him be drawn in, tis nice :)
Great Song! Is it about someone/something that makes you happy?
the almost naive sense of happiness of this song is quite moving. w4sert, i think it's definitely about someone very radiant, who makes you happy.
I believe the title gives insight to the story. The guy has been drawn in by jealousy and decided two take some time apart from the girl. But as he reaches the two months off he figures out she's perfect for him.
Brandon is not a very nice guy, but Alex is sooo nice.
Brandon and Alex???
Quite possibly refers to the Dj Duo of Brandon Block and Alex P(etridis)

This is a song about spiritual experience/ falling in love/ taking drugs all at the same time. It encorporates chant and repeated rhythms and high tech. Its doing what music has been doing for thousands of years - getting you to escape your individual head and bond in an ecstatic group experience.
Its a hard thing to do well.
And it does it REALLY well.
And it does it REALLY well.
@clareak Brilliant point…it is ecstatic and primal, isn’t it? The chant reminds me of monastic plainsong, while the repeated rhythms and chords kind of make me think of minimalist works by composers such as Philip Glass.
