Love of the Loveless Lyrics

Don't got a lot of time
Don't give a damn
Don't tell me what to do
I am the man
If there's a god up there
Something above
God, shine your light down here
Shine on the love

Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless

Don't have too many friends
Never felt at home
Always been my own man
Pretty much alone
I know how to get through
And when push comes to shove
I got something that you need
I got the love

Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless
The love of the loveless

All around you people walking
Empty hearts and voices talking
Looking for and finding
Nothing

Don't got a lot of time
Don't really care
Not selling anything
Buyer beware
If there's a god up there
Something above
God, shine your light down here
Shine on the love

Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless
The love of the loveless

Don't got a lot of time
Don't give a damn
Don't tell me what to do
I am the man

Love of the loveless
Love of the loveless
The love of the loveless
Love of the loveless

Yeah, the title is definitely "Love of the Loveless."

I have been listening to this song a lot for what, three years? Not a clue what it means. It sounds like the love of the loveless is religious, but then he says "God, shine your light down here/ Shine on the love."

So this man is lonely and apathetic, but he believes in God. I've decided that for me, the love of the loveless is the love that he gives to others, or just optimism in living life.

"All around you people walking/ Empty hearts and voices talking/ Looking for and finding/ Nothing." Clearly, these people do not have the love of the loveless. They get hurt "when push comes to shove" even if they aren't lonely or apathetic, because they dont have that love.

In my interpretation, this song is suggesting that we create our own love. Even if we are "loveless," meaning we don't have a lot of friends who love us, we can still give love with small courtesies and general optimism.

The meaning, I think, is highlighted when the song says: "Don’t have too many friends Never felt at home Always been my own man Pretty much alone I know how to get through And when push comes to shove I got something that you need I got the love Love of the loveless"

Even though the one who's singing is theoretically "loveless," they're still able to express some form of "love" or affection. One can just be considered "loveless" because of the way they express their love. Or because they don't express it all the time or because they don't express it the way most people do.

But when the loveless person does show their love, it's something that means a lot more and is a lot more significant than when a "loving" person does.

It is "Love of the Loveless"; yes.

I think the meaning is pretty easy to figure out, though. I always kind of felt I identified with it. [In fact, I'm feeling that way now.]

But I think it's someone who feels that they are, inside, loveless, because of the lack of affection directed towards themselves, they project affection unto others to give them a sense of love - the lazy optimism and support that leaks out of them is some way of trying to make up for the sheer lack of it/understanding they feel is coming back their way.

"Don’t have too many friends Never felt at home Always been my own man Pretty much alone" I don't have that many friends; I'm a little strange, so I've always been sort of a loner.

"I know how to get through And when push comes to shove I got something that you need I got the love Love of the loveless" But I know how to pull through the tough times and keep it level, I know I'm needed, because I am your support, from that I learn to support myself.

Sort of. I'm sorry. It's 5AM, I'm doing an awful job at conveying this.

Yeah it's called Love of the Loveless, it's been out for awhile now, 4, 5 years? at least. on Shootenanny. I always thought the meaning was pretty obvious, thier whole album that this came out on consisted of songs expressing independance, and this which touches heavily on it is saying the same thing. Love of the loveless is the love you have for yourself; and the ability to be independant, he's talking about how he's comfortable being on his own. Other songs on this album like Lone Wolf are about the same thing, it was the first cd i bought that I thought every single song was really good, especially dirty girl.
