Absent Elements Lyrics

Everyone plays along
Get them giving or steal the life they’re breathing
They’ll grow sickened
Take their secret codes and signals
Discover all they know
Keep up the pace now until it all dries up

You’ll never find out now
That all these absent elements
Build your comfortable defense stronger still
Like an emptiness

Way too early to consider losing
Vacant staring may discover some reflection
Or may discover none
Just think what you’ve done
And watch it all add up

Like an emptiness you’ll never fill

I think this song is about people and their way of basically letting material things rule them. The absent elements would be non material things, and without these, its an emptiness. You could also say that this song is about people being blind to the worst things in life, and believing its all a cakewalk. They build their comfortable defense against the world, and the bad things within it, and the bad things are absent elements to them.

I think it could be about how people go around through there entire life, filling themselves with things of the world and not realizing that all these "absent elements" meaning things that could fill there emptiness but they cant see build there defense against them until its to late. Like they wasted there enitre life

i think its abt ppl who try to live life through others..nd live a life of emptiness themselves..which they can never fill coze the the "code"is missing which is the fact that other's life is not their..it never will be...they fight this fact..hide it frm others.. hide it frm themselves..but the fact will remain alive dat they will feel empty always.

The way I used to interpret it when I did lots of drugs was that they were what built my comfortable defense, and I could never fill the void that ensued when I didn't have anything.

I don't do drugs anymore, but the song will always have that sort of significance for me.

"May discover some reflection, or may discover none..." referred to what I might find on whatever journey I decided to take myself on, but when I thought about what all of it was doing to me I knew I was just building a wall around the real me.

But, you know, everyone interprets things differently.
