Crystal Village Lyrics
Take my hand
Come with me
Into this crystal scenery
And wait, til I retain the ticket
You will never have the time
I would love to change your mind
You were there
And it was good in the beginning
Over here I see the lights of arranging twilight sages
Commence to reveal it to the others
But you will never have the time
I would love to change your mind
You were there
And it was good in the beginning
You were there
We were good in the beginning
You take my hand
And come with me
Into this crystal village
To see the lights of fried in brightness
Cause you will never have the time
I would love to change your mind
You were there
And it was good in the beginning
You take my hand
And come with me
I see the lights so brightly
As we fall as if we never really mattered
Cause you will never have the time
I would love to change your mind
It was there
And it was good in the beginning
We were there
It was good in the beginning
It was good in the beginning
It was good in the beginning
Here take my hand
It was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
And it was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
It was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
Here take my hand
And it was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
And it was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
It was good in the beginning
Oh take my hand
Oh
Yeah yeah
Come with me
Into this crystal scenery
And wait, til I retain the ticket
You will never have the time
I would love to change your mind
You were there

wow...the last reply on this song was from over 2 years ago! I know the Day I Forgot album has been out for quite a while now....but this song, along with "Pass Me By", are in my opinion, the two best Pete Yorn songs....even though everything I've read says that Day I Forgot was his worst album critically.....they are dead wrong
this song is gorgeous. some people wonder why it's called 'crystal village' and my personal opinion is that since the song is about a relationship that has gotten old and sour, crystal represents things frozen back in time. he's trying to take her back to a time when 'it was good in the beginning', but she 'will never have the time'. this is a beautiful time and is pete at his best. he's amazing live!
Powerful breakup song, expresses well the regret and idealistic outlook of an early relationship. Of course I don't think the line "well, it was good in the beginning" would ever work on any of my past or future exes, but I'll try it! ha ha...
This song only has 1 comment, and I only know 2 Pete Yorn songs. Why isn't this song more popular? What's wrong here... grr.
Fantastic song. I agree on wondering why it's not huge. I can't even find any decent guitar tablature for it anywhere...
Anyway. I think the whole "Crystal Village" motif is more than just representative of the past. I think it's representative of a fantasy version of the past. Phrases like "crystal village", "twilight sages"; these are all clues that the past he's remembering isn't really the past that existed in this relationship. And the repetition of "It was good in the beginning" tends to underscore that. He may be trying to convince himself, even more than her, that it was "good in the beginning".
Which, I guess when you think about it, is a remarkably depressing interpretation of a remarkably uplifting song. But I just calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Great song , what hes really trying to say is that he wants to go back when things were good but shes doenst want to its like she doesnt care about it anymore and hes trying to say that he wants to take her to crystal village which means a better relationship for them like the relationship they always wanted
Definitely one of Pete's best songs. He KILLS when he sings it live, as well. What an experience.
This song is another one of the classics where the upbeat music betrays the depressing lyrics. I think he's subtle with his pain, and if you didn't pay attention, you wouldn't even pick up on it.
Also, nerdy note - As a tradition, whenever I head out to Crystal City on the Metro (or ride by it), I put this song on.
This song actually makes me cry. memories memories....
Pete wrote this song when two of his friends were splitting up. (or so he said when I saw him at a private show... I got so nervous when I got his autograph, I just started babbling) He remembered how well they complimented each other when they got together.

relationship is fading and slipping away and he would like to go back to the beginning when things are good. relationships are always good in the beginning
