Re-gaining Unconsciousness Lyrics

First they put away the dealers,
keep our kids safe and off the street.
Then they put away the prostitutes,
keep married men cloistered at home.
Then they shooed away the bums,
then they beat and bashed the queers,
turned away asylum-seekers,
fed us suspicions and fears.
We didn´t raise our voice,
we didn´t make a fuss.
It´s funny there was no one left to notice
when they came for us.
Looks like witches are in season,
you better fly your flag and be aware
of anyone who might fit the description,
diversity is now our biggest fear.
Now with our conversations tapped
and our differences exposed,
how ya supposed to love your neighbor
with our minds and curtains closed?
We used to worry ´bout big brother,
now we got a big father and an even bigger muther.
And still you believe
this aristocracy gives a fuck about you.
They put the mock in demockracy
and you swallowed every hook.
The sad truth is you would rather
follow the school into the net
cuz swimming alone at sea
is not the kind of freedom you actually want.
So go back to your crib and suck on a tit
go bask in the warmth of your diaper.
You´re sitting in shit and piss
while sucking a huge pacifier,
a country of adult infants.
A legion of mental midgets
all regaining their unconsciousness

I think this was the best song on the album. Perfectly describes America.

This is the punk version of that ww2 poen written by the catholic priest, its about the holocaust.

found it: First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

This is where the song goes to hell. The first part seems really deep, but there he sounds like a 12-year-old who just learned how to cuss and it kinda ruins the rest of the song

But if Nofx didn't cuss like a 12 year-old, would it still be Nofx? I think the baby analogy works regardless of the cursing.

who do people give TWOE so much crap and rant on about how much it sucks. the album is strong as fuck, lyrically anyway. anyway about this song. great song, pretty much about how politicina shandle shit in the USA and how its pretty sad that people just rather stay at home and keep warm ("so go back to your crib...") when they know that what the govt is doing is wrong, and not do anything about it. or i could be completely off :)

I just joined this thing, and was actually heading straight for this song to post Niemollar's quote, but i got beat to it

yeah i'm with milkman, the first 2/3 of the song are great but the last part is so bad that it kind of ruins the song

I agree with milkman also. The baby analogy is trite and overdone and juxtaposed with the awesome lyrical content of the rest of the song, it doesn't stand up.

See I disagree. I usually feel that lyrics don't need to have so many cuss words in it but they fit here.
