Going Under Lyrics

Now I will tell you what I've done for you
Fifty thousand tears I've cried
Screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me

(I'm going under)

Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
Maybe I'll wake up for once
Now tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom
I'm dying again

I'm going under, (going under)
Drowning in you, (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever, (falling forever)
I've got to break through, I'm going under

Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
So I don't know what's real and what's not
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore
I'm dying again

I'm going under, (going under)
Drowning in you, (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever, (falling forever)
I've got to break through, I'm

So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away
I won't be broken again
I've got to breathe I can't keep going under

I'm dying again
I'm going under, (going under)
Drowning in you, (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever, (falling forever)
I've got to break through, I'm going under
Going under
I'm going under

I LOOOOVE this song. I always get obsessed with a really really small part of songs, and in this one it's how amy sings "maybe i'll wake up for once" and then the echo comes...I love it! Anyway, I feel this song points on some level to abuse...she's trying so hard to escape, to "breathe" and "break through" but his abuse is so overpowering that she can't help "going under" and drowning. Sad.

well i agree with kellymac23! but if you want a song that talks about breaking from abuse then you should listen to "black eyes, blue tears" by shinia twain!

@kellymac23 I believe she was in a long term relationship with an alcoholic, referenced in the song Call Me When You're Sober. Dealing with somebody else's addiction is crazy making and leaves one feeling totally out of control of one's own life. She was literally drowning in his drinking. On top of that she was dealing with her own mental health issues- depression and anxiety.

I see this song as being about unrequited love. The "narrator" has been strung along by someone who doesn't love her, but is amused by playing with her emotions. She has finally realized what is going on and is telling the guy that although she's been through hell for him, she won't tolerate being used anymore.

This is scarily accurate about me n my ex. I'm the same as kellymac, I like certain parts of songs too. My ex n his mates r making my life hell, they take every opportunity to hurt me, and r telling me so many lies and stories that I have no idea who to trust and who not to. V similar to "Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies, so i don't know what's real and what's not, always confusing the thoughts in my head, so I can't trust myself anymore." My ex used to think I was indispensible to him ("Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself") I love this song and can't begin to say how accurate this is about the situation with my ex.

Isn't it "I dive again"?

I agree. That how it sounds to me, and it fits the context better.

Basically it is talkign abotu someone who is constantly putting them down in some way or another..they want a way to end the misery.

androphobic, i think the intrepretation of:

"blurring and stirring the truth and the lies so i don't know what's real and what's not always confusing the thoughts in my head so i can't trust myself anymore i'm dying again "

Is about someone in denial and cannot find the right and wrong thing to do about someone. It is about a person whom is hurting someone, but this person still loves him/her. Hence, this person is in a state of confusion. I really think that this particular part of the song is so powerful. I would have to agree that Evanescence is a genius. Basically, anyone could put any situation in their songs and relate to them.

I absolutely agree with imaginarylight...about the unrequited love...about how badly she's been treated by a guy who only uses her, and doesn't really seem to care about her.She feels cheated and decieved, but now shes turned the tables on him and told him she won't take it any more his crap anymore.

I think this song is talking about someone who is always doing something for someone else (be it a freind, family member, boyfriend, ect.) but she needs them too and they are never there for her when she needs it. She's controlled by them, does everything they ask, but they are never there for her, so she is trying to get out. "So go on and scream...scream at me...I'm so far away...I won't be broken again...I've got to breathe..I can't keep going under" I think that part she is talking about how they can keep trying to controll her, but she isn't listening anymore, she's trying to help herself and get out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I can clearly hear: I dive again, drowning with you (not I'm dying again, drowning in you). What do you think?

yep i hear that too, i was looking for someone to say that... i think it kinda makes the lyrics more metaphoric in meaning

It's about a girl who is in love with someone who makes her unhappy. She needs to stop forgiving and save herself from this miseray because she is dying inside. Ive been through this with a man. I listen to this song and it tears me up because I can relate so muc to the lyrics.
