When Kelly cries
The makeup runs from her eyes
And spills the truth about how she feels inside
When Kelly screams
It usually means I'm not being me
But she's not being her
But anyway

A second chance means nothing,
'Cause nothing's learned from past mistakes
And I'm sure we felt the weight, the weight

And three whole years fall on deaf ears
I'm in no place for solitaire
Three whole years fall on deaf ears
If you can't understand our fears
It's not fair to me

Do you remember when?
Kelly, do you remember when?
When I figured it was cool, and I figured wrong

A second chance means nothing,
'Cause nothing's learned from past mistakes
And I'm sure we felt the weight

And do you know how I know?
Because all those times
We looked in each other's eyes,
And we ignored all the signs

And three whole years fall on deaf ears
I'm in no place for solitaire
Three whole years fall on deaf ears
If you can't understand our fears, it's not fair to me

Do you remember when?
Kelly, do you remember when?
When I figured it was cool, and I figured wrong
Do you remember when?
Kelly, do you remember when?
When I figured it was cool, and I figured wrong

Why do I even try? (I don't know, it's all for nothing)
Why do I even try? (I don't know, it's all for nothing)
I'm waiting for you, will you wait for me too?
Yeah wait for me, yeah wait for me, it's not fair to me

Do you remember when?
Kelly, do you remember when?
When you figured it was cool, and you figured wrong
Do you remember when?
Kelly, do you remember when?
When you figured it was cool, and you figured wrong
You figured wrong, you figured wrong, you figured wrong
And you figured it was cool, and you figured wrong

This song could be about a girl involved alcohol, a week ago or something i started to see it as an anti alcohol song, here is why.

When Kelly cries The makeup runs from her eyes And spills the truth about how she feels inside

    • Shes in regret about drinking and she spills the truth that she isnt fine at all

    She's not being her

    • She doesnt usually get involved with alcohol

Figured it was cool, and you/I figured wrong?

Basically in relation to alchol you can see my point, it seems vinny is saying ive been there when he sings the variation of the original and final lines.

Three whole years fell on deaf ears

    • For three years kelly drank alcohol and vinny and others tried to tell her to come off it but she didnt listen to them.

Why do I even try? I dont know! its all for nothing!

No point in telling kelly she needs to stop drinking, she wont listen and its all for nothing. I like the conversation style between vin and the backing singer whatever hes called

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
