Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?
When you're taught through feelings
Destiny flying high above
All I know is that you can realize
Destiny who cares
As it turns around
And I know that it descends down on me
It's just another day
The shame is gone
Hard to believe
That I've let it go
Destiny can't replace my life
Scary shadows of my past are alive
Destiny who cares as it turns around
And I know that it descends with a smile
Just another day
The shame is gone
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go away
It's just a melody
It bleeds in me
Hard to believe
That I've let it go
When you're taught through feelings
Just another day
The shame is gone
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go away
It's just a melody
It bleeds in me
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go
Destiny flying high above
All I know is that you can realize
Destiny who cares
As it turns around
And I know that it descends down on me
It's just another day
The shame is gone
Hard to believe
That I've let it go
Destiny can't replace my life
Scary shadows of my past are alive
Destiny who cares as it turns around
And I know that it descends with a smile
Just another day
The shame is gone
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go away
It's just a melody
It bleeds in me
Hard to believe
That I've let it go
When you're taught through feelings
Just another day
The shame is gone
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go away
It's just a melody
It bleeds in me
It's hard to believe
That I've let it go

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
I really can't understand how people can compare Nightwish and Evanescence to Lacuna Coil. Lacuna Coil shit all over them both.
Christina Scabbia has got one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard.
Shoo with your negativity. Amy Lee, Tarja Turunen AND, yes I am comparinga tellinghristina all worked to get to where they are. Nightwish is a different category of metal, if I say so myself, than Lacuna Coil, whereas Evanescence is a bit more alternative and a softer genre of rock compared to both Lacuna Coil and Nightwish, to me at least. As for the song Swamped, where this topic should be, it seems to me to be a telling of one's own future passing by, until 'Destiny who cares/Turns around and I know it descends on me' makes it seem that it, being 'Destiny' who allowed movement forward, though it's hard to let go of the past, shameful as it may be.
