I'll Take What's In The Box, Monty Lyrics
the sky burns black blue bruised over these lights from the station, these shitty cars, these liquor store signs.
let's walk and pretend that we're at the of this scraping, this burning, this "the hard way" learning.
i'm sick. you're tired. oh yeah.
the leaves lay in graves on cracked sidewalk tiles and on backs bent concave under weights. i'm not fine, and i'm not the one crying. it can happen to your well, i'd love to belive. but i'm slamming this bottle on this same damned street. i've melted. i've felt it. it stings worse than pain. apathy, exhaustion, it all seems the same,
fire away.
sit next to me, we can talk or just kiss. you can rub my palm and say better than this
your smile makes me cry when it's not on there right, and i'm not fine and i'm not the one crying ...
i'm dragginh you down because i'm lonely and i need you around.
so smile and sleep ...
and in the morning creep out the door.
i dunno what you stayed this long for.
fire away.

these guys have something great going for them a different sound a different way
this song is about a guy (brendan kelly) who is disillusioned with life, talking about himself and his equally disillusioned girlfriend (or girlfriend type figure), and the point they are at in their lives. i think that they have had a long relationship together and that they're ready to just grow up past all the shit that's been bugging them. seems like he thinks he's dragging the girl down, and he's grateful that she stays with him despite this. i love the line "your smile makes me cry when it's not on there right." that's so damn good. it's always sad when someone you love has that fake smile plastered on his or her face, and you just get that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach. good times, great band. anyone who likes them, please post on some of the songs, there are barely any.
dude i was just about to say pretty much the same thing but it looks like you took care of it. the song's about being in a relationship and making it through tough times, as well as kinda thanking the girl for putting up with him and being there for him cause he feels like she deserves so much better. fire away.
"Yeah, the song is sort of about my abject poverty and pathetic existence. I have this girlfriend that I really like a lot and I feel really, really bad that I’m what she gets. You know what I mean? Sort of like I feel that she’s made this blind choice, not knowing how it will turn out and what it could really be if you lift up the box and there’s just me on the couch, 40 years old, I haven’t had a job for a long time, ‘see you when you get home, honey.’ It’s a sad song, a warning to my girlfriend: get away from me while you’re still young."
that's what brendan says about it...
dude i can relate to this soung so much. first the whole lot of the description of an area, bren is describing the poorer side of chicago he lives on. and he keeps on talkin bout how he cant deal with his problems and hes hitting the bottle, and he doesnt understand why his girlfriend hasnt left him yet, but he still shows her his love. lifes a surprise you never know what you'll get [or get into for that matter] hence the title "I'll take whats in the box monty"
i'm pretty sure this girl becomes brendan's wife.
best line ever.. "sit next to me, we can talk or just kiss" mmm that feels good.
i never understood the part "you can rub my palm and say better than this"
