Let Her Down Easy Lyrics
You're top man on the scene
You don't think life comes in between
But hey, she's just seventeen
She feels that she's a worldly girl
But man you've been around the world
She is just some worried daddy's girl
Even though there's nothing I can say
To cheat you and nature any way
Let her down easy
Her heart is on a dime
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time
In her strawberry eyes
The way she sees you signifies
That she's susceptible to your velvet lies
But if you must lay her down
May a butterscotch glow be her dressing gown
And please do not lead her on when you leave town
Even though there's nothing I can say
To cheat you and nature any way
Let her down easy
Her heart is on the line
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time
She's a woman now
With a daughter to make her proud
In her crayon world of paper clouds
She still remembers you
The first boy that she gave it to
And she laughs at how little then she knew
Her daughter's five and her grandfather adores her (of course)
Let her down easy
Her heart is on the line
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time
You don't think life comes in between
But hey, she's just seventeen
She feels that she's a worldly girl
But man you've been around the world

Beautiful, emotional song. I guess it's about coming to terms with growing up and coming to terms with the truth. There are many times I have been let down hard and suddenly. And how I wish those women had heard this song and had just been truthful about everything instead of building something on false promises.
Okay, it's about a lady in this case - but it's the same thing in the end. Now I laugh at how little I knew when I was a teen! I'm 21 now, and I've found someone who I am certain I have a future with. =)
Oh, and of course it is about understanding that virginity is precious too.
This is a wonderful song and one of my favorites. To me, this song is about growing up and how unthoughful and unrespectful acting can damage a person massively, especially when it comes to sexuality.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with making experiences, but it shouldn't necessarily be experiences to be ashamed of or experiences to regret later on.
Terence Trent D'Arby sings that there is nothing he can do to cheat to you (the boy) and nature anyway. By this, he refers to the fact, that many young adults make their experiences with sexuality, girls lose their virginity and many guys are out "hunting" for young innocent girls to take their virginity, since many of them are innocent, naive and susceptible to the "velvet lies".
But even though this "desire" has always been there and that it has always been that way in history, one should never forget to treat that girl respectfully. By sleeping with a virgin, one will always be a part of her life and she probably will never forget one. In the end, she is giving a gift and that every boy should honor that gift and treat the girl with respect.
The song is an appeal to young men to be kind to the girls. Don't just fill her up, lie to her, play with her and leave her behind after you are done. You should always think about whether you want the girl to think back about you in the future and feel shame or anger, or if you want her to think about you in some good way.
So it's an appeal not to be a complete lying piece of shit, but take advantage of a girl anyway by sleeping with her. Pretty low standard. Why is a grown up, older man sleeping with a 17-year-old anyway?
@learning i I think that history has demonstrated that Love has no age , among many examples is Charles Chaplin and his last wife Oona O'neill who's father was the famous American playwright Eugene O'neill , she was 18th when they married he being 54 years old and they had 8 children together she stayed with til his death , the president of France Macron it's 24 years younger than his wife Briggite .

Now about sleeping with a 17 years old girl or the like : women mature sexually earlier than young teenage boys , they have an awareness of their sexuality from early age as for a woman sexuality it's embedded in not only her body but her soul as it look like she has been in part created for enjoying it in a way men we do not know or experience it.
a grown up men will treat a young women her body and '' soul'' in way that a young teenage boy will take him many years to learn and master.
In previous old times young women will get married at a very early age nothing strange with that . in our actual neoliberal times women had been make believe that they should be empowered and pursue academic , professional success rather than family and personal in a pure female sense , they have been robed and in the process all of us , in the name of the profit of few ones , of very valuable and beautiful things .
There is nothing wrong to be with a young woman if the motivations are good and pure , and there might be few things as pure as the honesty of a young women sharing her virginity and emotions with the man she chooses to.
