I'd Love You To Want Me Lyrics
when I saw you standing there
I about fell out my chair
and when you moved your mouth to speak
I felt the blood go to my feet
now it took time for me to know
what you tried so not to show
now something in my soul just cries
I see the want in your blue eyes
Chorus:
baby, I'd love you to want me
the way that I want you
the way that it should be
baby, you'd love me to want you
the way that I want to
if you'd only let it be
you told yourself years ago
you'd never let your feelings show
the obligation that you made
for the title that they gave
I about fell out my chair
and when you moved your mouth to speak
I felt the blood go to my feet
what you tried so not to show
now something in my soul just cries
I see the want in your blue eyes
baby, I'd love you to want me
the way that I want you
the way that it should be
baby, you'd love me to want you
the way that I want to
if you'd only let it be
you'd never let your feelings show
the obligation that you made
for the title that they gave

I agree with billko that it could be about a nun obliged to observe chastity for the 'title'. That fits the lyrics well.
The song, the music is simply beautiful & simple. Pleasant to the ears. It was just a matter of chance that I discovered this song (an acquaintance's caller tune). I'd like to listen to more of such songs (which are rare these days except one songs like Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are)
To give it a broader meaning, the 'title' can be the things that come in the way of potential relationships (particularly those that are conscious choices made by one of the partners.) But the choice made by the partner is wrong! It didn't necessarily had had to be the way it turned out.
My favorite part- "baby, I'd love you to want me the way that I want you the way that it should be"
Never give up on your judgment of right or wrong even when it involves judging your near n dear ones. The singer recognizes the contrast between 'what is' as against 'what should be'. There should be this rigidity and firmness in your judgment which I admire.
It was written by Lobo in memory of a crush he had on his science teacher at school
It's about a guy who's in love with a girl and he wants her to return the same feelings back! This has to be Lobo's signature song!
Just another thought… the title that they gave might be “teacher” and the promise not to have a relationship with a student.
This would be in keeping with the suggestion that this was about a crush in high school.
I wasn’t sure who he was talking about. But I had read in an interview he admitted that when he was senior in HS.. . he had a crush on his 22 yo beautiful art teacher. The words in the song were about her.
1! Spent, Biatch.
Cheesy, classic, romantic song. Just gotta love it.
This is about a man who is in love with a nun. She gave an obligation of chastity in exchange for this "title" from the church.
That makes sense. Thanks.

No you're wrong. This song is about his crush on a married woman. The "title" he's talking about is the "surname" a woman takes on of her husband when she gets married. The 'obligation' is her vow to her husband, "in sickness & in health, till death do us part".

@billko I’d agree that this is about a crush on a married woman. The “obligation” is marriage and the title she was given is “Mrs”.
Wonderful song Doug

He sees a lady of the night and falls in love for her.
@Goodfind This song can apply to all walks of life? Well, I found this song by Lobo in my ex girlfriend's Playlist on her You Tube Page...

Yes, I fell in love with a Christian Woman, but she never developed any trust in me, and as doing the things too soon that Christian people are not supposed to do, only when they are married?

However, even afterwards, for four years plus, it was on and off, with her trying to coerce me into marriage?

But with distancing herself without much communication, we weren't growing in the relationship together, and was doing the things in actions that should've shown her, I wasn't going anywhere, as wanting her to want me, the way I wanted her, with love?
Well, I'm not one for manipulation or ultimatums being put on me, as she should've bought something to the table as well, but instead, built a wall of distance between us, that I believe destroyed our relationship together?
