Spirit In The Sky Lyrics

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die,
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky

Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best

Prepare yourself, you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky

Going to recommend you to the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best

Never been a sinner, I never sin
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky
Oh, set me up with the spirit in the sky

i heard that norman greenbaum was actually jewish and he used "ive got a friend in jesus" as a marketing ploy. and i also heard what opinionhead said, that it was about televangelists, which makes a lot of sense.... "im not a sinner, i never sin"... sounds like tv preaching

I just love your screenname<3

Not Valid

@jurassicpork have you not heard of "Jews for Jesus"?

it's awesome and yes Greenbaum was Jewish.

@iforgot *is Jewish. Once a Jew, always a Jew, whether practised or not. I ain’t certain about Norman’s current spiritual beliefs/views.

You guys can have this song at your funeral I'm sticking with another one bites the dust by Queen

Greenbaum explicitly stated that it's just a simple song inspired by old Western movies. It's NOT religious satire, and it's NOT Christian praise music, despite all of you atheists wanting to claim it as your own. It's supposed to be spiritual so he chose Christianity because he had to choose something. It's NOT because he's Christian, and it's NOT because he's satiring religion. Get over yourselves

@stoutcarrot He is a Jew, but probably not Orthodox, as he grew up, due to His hippie hair. Mentioning Jesus (Yeshua) doesn’t make Him a Christian. I love Yeshua the Christ and I am no Christian. Christianity is different how Yeshua is the Christ, is divine, and was crucified.

Great song.

I heard that it's the number 1 song at funerals.

@BassGuitar25 Not Always Look on the Bright Side of Life? Not Amazing Grace? Not Stairway to Heaven?

This song rocks! I did once hear it at a funeral, I didn't know the man (the decest) well. I kinda felt bad, cause the song just made me want to dance ...shame on me... :) The song kinda lightened the mood a little...i must say that it sure as hell beats organ music for a funeral
