I'm confused about what this song means. The second verse (starting with "First anniversary...) makes it seem like the man is alive, but in the third verve (Two eyes...), it sounds like the child doesn't know who his father is. So what is going on? Can anyone help?
This song is about a man and woman with a family. She is remembering when her husband brought up the topic of death. He wanted to tell her that if he died to tell their children about him when they were old enough. I think this whole memory comes from the picture of her husband that her child asks about. She is also remembering when they spoke about if one of them dies and she is reminded of happy things too like their wedding and the birth of the children. i think what India is saying is... that the girl and the guy met one day, and fell in love, and had a child. and the guy asked her to promise her if one day he isnt there any longer. then she would remain strong for their children. as the song goes on, i believe the man died, perhaps fought for his child and his country "your daddy lived for you, your daddy died for you". and perhaps he passed away at an early stage in the child's childhood. and so one day as the child asked about his father, his mother retells the story about their father and how he passed away, and how he was a good man and fought for their country...
