I Should've Known Better Lyrics
It's been a long time comin'
And the cards were stacked
It's been a long hard road to hell and back
Your love meant trouble
From the day we met
You won every hand, I lost every bet
(chorus)
Now you think that I, I should've known better
Now I think that I, I would've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone
A cup of cold coffee
Yesterday's mail
Bad love like this is always bound to fail
Your love meant trouble
From the day we met
If you want your things, they're on the front step
(chorus)
Now you'd think that I, I should've known better
Now I think that I should've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone
All alone in my kitchen
All alone in my head
Some things you can't take back once they've been said
I don't know what this love is for
All I know is I don't want it anymore
(chorus)
Now you'd think that I, I should've known better
I, I should've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone
And the cards were stacked
It's been a long hard road to hell and back
Your love meant trouble
From the day we met
You won every hand, I lost every bet
Now you think that I, I should've known better
Now I think that I, I would've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone
Yesterday's mail
Bad love like this is always bound to fail
Your love meant trouble
From the day we met
If you want your things, they're on the front step
Now you'd think that I, I should've known better
Now I think that I should've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone
All alone in my head
Some things you can't take back once they've been said
I don't know what this love is for
All I know is I don't want it anymore
Now you'd think that I, I should've known better
I, I should've seen it come
My heart sank when I read that letter
It sank like a stone, it sank like a stone

"Done me wrong" country song. But far less annoying than Hank Williams!
Nope this is a Carrie Newcomer song they covered. Covered very well. And you can take your country music stereotypes and shove em somewhere. Besides that, no one with any grasp of music in general could call Nickel Creek country. Most people won't even call them bluegrass.
The song definately leaps out of hte other tracks on the CD, and any one who wants to stereotype this as a dunmewrong song deserves a hearty 'Shame On You."
It's understandably (to me) about a young woman who found her boyfriend cheating, because of her lack of 'passion' in the relationship.
The letter, I believe, was his explaining his newest girlfriend to her, the used tissue.
Awesome song about dry love that went down the drain because of cheating and lack of passion like before mentioned, an awesome song to hear live.
To me, this song is about someone who has been told that the person they are dating is bad for them. The person saw all the warning signs, but for some reason didn't really believe it was going to end so bad. WONDERFUL live.
