One More Cup Of Coffee Lyrics
Your breath is sweet
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky.
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie.
But I don't sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above.
One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below.
Your daddy he's an outlaw
And a wanderer by trade
He'll teach you how to pick and choose
And how to throw the blade
He oversees his kingdom
So no stranger does intrude
His voice it trembles as he calls out
For another plate of food
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
Your sister sees the future
Like your mama and yourself
You've never learned to read or write
There's no books upon your shelf.
And your pleasure knows no limits
Your voice is like a meadowlark
But your heart is like an ocean
Mysterious and dark
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky.
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie.
But I don't sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above.
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below.
And a wanderer by trade
He'll teach you how to pick and choose
And how to throw the blade
He oversees his kingdom
So no stranger does intrude
His voice it trembles as he calls out
For another plate of food
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
Like your mama and yourself
You've never learned to read or write
There's no books upon your shelf.
And your pleasure knows no limits
Your voice is like a meadowlark
But your heart is like an ocean
Mysterious and dark
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below

This song is about a pagan girl and her kind that worship the stars. All songs are relative to the listener, but for me this refers to the peace, beauty, and magick of the untouched, undomesticated mountain dwellers living on the periphery of civilization whose way of life is lost to having to earn a wage. Before we all came down the slopes to the carnival, the valley below where the banks offered a civilized lifestyle for us vulgarians, we were more prone to being well balanced individuals of nature (pagans, and gypsies) giving rise to foresight and psychic abilities that were later demonized by "worldly gentlemen" as witchcraft instead of natures gift to those willing to see. Maybe the bible was an allegory, a cautionary tale warning us about giving into money and such temptation so we'd never build America and have to bomb other countries for prosperity? As any country hick like myself who must commute to the city everyday to make a living its easy to appreciate and recognize the genius of such folk music like this, and the sad irony of our modern disposition.
The Valley Below? Where have I heard that? Some Zeppelin song I think...
"I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley below, I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, waiting for the eastern glow."
Led Zeppelin - Battle of evermore
i think its by dylan
it is.....both versions are equally good.
Correct title is "One More Cup Of Coffee", not "One Last Cup Of Coffee".
"I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley below, I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, waiting for the eastern glow."
Led Zeppelin - Battle of evermore
Nice cover of Bob Dylan's "One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below)" from Desire. Original is excellent with Emmy Lou Harris singing backup vocals.
The version of The White Stripes is much better
I do think that though dues are owed to Bob Dylan for the original, The White Stripes did the better version.
